RE: CHEAP SMARTPHONE £ 72
Check the dimensions of these phones.
Whilst they are capable phones, they are significantly larger than most equivalents (sans keyboard) on the market.
RE: Shadow Of The Colossus [PS2] - £22.98 @ Simply Games
I`ve had a couple of bad experiences with this lot over the years.
In one, they offered a readily available game really cheaply and then spent MONTHS ignoring or fobbing off my follow up emails.
More recently, they were showing XBOX360 cables as in stock until you ordered :/
RE: SKY+
You`re dead right, Skittles.
Whilst it`s true that Sky don`t get any money by you cancelling the subscription, the guy at the other end of the phone probably doesn`t have shares in Sky and isn`t unduly bothered either way.
I`ve even seen call takers purposefully drop calls to awkward customers on the grounds that when they finally call back and get through again, it won`t be to them.
RE: Must be a pricing mistake..... Right?
I truly believe that Lumines is probably the best game on the PSP.
Obviously, this is according to taste but I don`t even usually like puzzle games.
I only gave this one a go because it was designed by the guy that designed Rez.
I have got a few of my mates switched on to it, too.
It`s a beautifully pure gaming experience.
RE: Limited Edition White PSP (In Stock + Save 32%)
My credit card company contacted me after I had made 2 purchases from YesAsia and LikSang the same day. They wanted to check that it wasn`t fraudulent. It might be worth contacting the credit card company and telling them to notate the account that you have made the purchase so that they don`t stall it whilst trying to contact you.
RE: DivX DVD player - New offer at LIDL from Monday 17 Oct
I bought one last time they came around and it had difficulties syncing lips with video on most MP4/DivX.
When I took it back for I refund, I was informed that their policy was to send it back to get it checked and that THEY would be the ones to decide whether it was of merchantable quality!
Eventually, I did get a refund (by cheque).
The thing is, I don`t know whether this was a faulty unit or whether the particular files that I had happened to be encoded in a way that it had problems with.
Watch these guys.
RE: BA (30/06/05): Wide range of cheap Orange & O2 contract deals from One Stop Phone Shop
A lot of people have thought about these cashbacks - I just haven`t seen a lot of discussion about them on this forum. There is loads on the rpoints forum.
The two min term £0 Orange contracts that I have from the OSPS require me to send the 4th/8th and 12th month bills to them within about 20 days of receiving them along with a voucher that was issued to me when I took out the contracts (no replacements will be given).
If you specify that you want to end the contract when you get your 11th bill then that will still cause you to get a 12th month bill that is suitable for redemption.
The main pitfalls of these schemes are:
1. forgetting to return the correct paperwork on time
2. losing the vouchers
3. the company going bust.
4. going over your allotted minutes (that won`t get refunded)
No.3 is important because what you are actually taking out is a standard contract with the network and a cash back contract with the vendor. OSPS are owned by Carphone Warehouse so I doubt we`ll see them go under but you might want to check out some of the other vendors (search for web discussion and do a whois on their website if there is none at the very least.).
OSPS tend to be slow at getting the cash back to you but they do seem to be doing it.
Good luck,

RE: Dvd recorder with divx play back at under £100
You haven`t missed the plot. It`s just a subtle plot. That`s why I originally suggested that if you didn`t know what divx was then you probably don`t need it :)
The thing is, that divx isn`t just about duplicating dvd`s that you physically posess.
Many people share video over the internet. Even downloading divx using broadband, can take ages. It would take around 5 times as long for the Dvd. The same goes for mp3. You could just copy the cd but mp3 is typically 1/10 of the size.
It`s not just used for pirated films, though. I am a kitesurfer and play some single A yoyo.
I like to see what is going on in the yoyo and kitesurf scenes worldwide.
People make all kinds of special interest ;) video`s and put them on the net (often in divx). I download some of them.
I store these video`s on DVD`s or CD`s. A divx dvd player enables me to watch them on my tv without having to re encode them as DVD`s (which can take ages).
Additionally, you will see devices called personal media center`s (sic) that enable you to store and carry immense amounts of video around. They are the video equivalent of the ipod.
I can watch divx on my phone (spv c500 using betaplayer) and i don`t need a 4.7gb (dvd size) storage card - 512 mb will do nicely.
Don`t forget that in the digital world, a lot of stuff is compressed. DVD`s themselves are compressed but in a less efficient manner than divx (which came later). Only about 1/2 hour of raw video from a DV camcorder will fit on a single sided single layer dvd, but I don`t think that many people would advocate watching a film spread across 4 disks - oh yeah, and that`s compressed anyway!
A divx dvd player will not allow you to play all video from the web, only that which is compressed in the divx method with the audio in an encoding that the player understands. It`s still pretty handy, though, as a low priced extra.
These are great technologies but convenience is the name of the game rather than outright quality.
RE: Dvd recorder with divx play back at under £100
DivX is pretty much the favoured format for encoding video for the net (mp3 is the equivalent for audio). It`s commonly used by broadband users to swap video clips and films.
The quality, like mp3, depends on who has encoded it and what bitrates they have chosen to use. Some look great - some don`t. When you are talking about digital compression (goes for DVD and digital tv), these issues are trade offs.
Like mp3, you are buying convenience rather than quality.
The bottom line is I`d much rather have a DVD player/recorder that played DivX than one that didn`t but if you`re not sure what DivX is, then the chances are that you don`t really need it.
RE: DVD Recorder With Divx Cheap!
I`m not sure that the ASDA recorder does play Divx. No one has confirmed this so basically the reply (and subsequent traffic that it generated) may be on the wrong thread!
Anyway...
MicroDirect sell a SumiVision DVD Recorder with Divx for £128.55
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=9824
Ebuyer have a Yamada one at £118.68

It`s worth doing a google search for this stuff.

RE: Nintendo DS with Metroid Prime demo £50
Good spot. Works out at £63 incl postage.
I have ordered one and have used LikSang and PlayAsia a lot. They are reliable.
BUT... because it is shipped from Hong Kong, you are liable for import duty, VAT and an admin charge. You won`t necessarily get charged this but you might do.
I don`t know what import duty is on a console (VAT is at 17.5%, and my last admin charge was £4 on £3.50 VAT.) but if I do get charged, I`ll just remember that I`m doing my bit for the schools and hospitals.
