RE: BA (30/06/05): Wide range of cheap Orange & O2 contract deals from One Stop Phone Shop

Yes, I went for the K750i for myself and the K300i (free) for my wife. Thanks to RM for the tip-off.
Ordered Thu 30th June in evening, mine turned up Saturday 2nd in the morning. No sign of wife`s, though. Web site said "Awaiting connection to network; being picked" or simothing similar. Chased via email and phone and was promised by the follwing weekend (9th/10th). No sign again. Chased by phone again and this time rather than the generic response, got through to another section who said that it looked like the order had stalled on the system for some reason - they pushed it through and guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next day. It arrived as promised!!

I suggest you check the status on the web and also phone up to chase (0845 number). It may have gone te same way as my wif`e`s order.

Once again, thanks to RM for the tip.

Only one downside, very patchy Orange coverage in my village (despite what the Orange web site says). :( .

RE: Frasier season 4 - £11.69 UPDATED

Mine also say "Not yet available". I`ve sent a couple of email to chase then up as I`ve been waiting since Dec for this.

The reply I get is .....

"Thank you for your email.

I have chased this up with the suppliers and they have advised me that the
release date for this title has been put back to 11/7/2005. As soon as this
title is available we will despatch this to you.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused to you by this."

I have had this twice now with different dates. I guess they are trying to just string people along until they get fed up and cancel.

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Test JPEG at weekend - works fine

Battery life - around 3 hours. Tried with TFT off (fed o/p into TV) and got about 4 hours.

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Humm, it sounds like it was a bit of a scrum for the Tevions!!

It sounds a lot easier to buy from Toys R Us. I ended up taking one Medion back (bought 2), as I had second thoughts and realised we couldn`t really afford 2 - new exhaust for the car would seem to take precedence!!

RE: i am looking for a portable dvd player 7" screen ? anyone Help!!

I`ve got a Medion and happy with it - see http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=366632&Page=2&Type=1.
As mentioned in earlier posts, I don`t think you`ll get a 7" for £100, not even in the New Year Sales, but you could hang on to see if Toys R Us do reduce it after Xmas. They seem to have plenty of stock, unlike the scrum for the Aldi Tevions (similar spce to Medion but £10 cheaper).

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Sod`s law!! It`s £10 cheaper and spec wise seems pretty similar.

I`ve got no complaints with mine, seems fine. Will be testing out battery life this weekend, as have moslty used it so far on 12V.

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Hi, I know it play audio CD, but I`ll try a jpeg CD over the weekend. Video on CD - don`t know what this is, so don`t know how to check.

RE: Lidl DVD Recorder - 16th Dec

Paul, thanks for your comments, but the downsides of RAM (for me) are that if I`ve recorded something on a re-writable, I want to be able to just play it in another player, as I do with video tape. Yes I could faff around cleaning it up & re-recording on a PC - IF I have a decent PC with a DVD recorder drive - budget for gadgets has to be spread according to benefit - portable DVD player keeps kids happy (and me) on long journeys, better PC not as benificial. A DVD recorder will allow me to transfer old videos to DVD so that they can be played on portable (and therfore in any room in house). I can also use DVD to record TV and playback on portable anywhere. Also, +R would be more beneficial to me, as I wouldn`t have to finalise. All these options are what is available on video tape, so why should I settle for less? I don`t have to write-protect my video tapes just so that I can watch them on another player - effectively what you have to do with -R-RW. I could record to -R as you pointed out, but what do I do with a finalised recording of last weeks Coronation Street in a month`s time - chuck it in the bin! Over time, this could get expensive. If, by your reconing, that you only get 10 re-recordings out of a +rw disc (is that complete re-recordings or just appending), that`s still more cost effective comparing the price of 10 -R discs to one +RW. Anyone else got better experience of +RW disc reuse? Maybe its your recorder (Mico - Phillips based?) or the brand of discs?

I can see that after your comments and reading the spec more carefully that this player probably isn`t worth £199, as it doesn`t really offer much more than a cheaper recorder (e.g. Mico as you point out) or Liteon. What is DIVX anyway?

Bowfer, I didn`t mention RGB because I didn`t have the detail, I was listing only what the Lidl flier mentioned. Looking at the spec above, it mentions RGB out, but not specifically in.

Paull, maybe some people only want a glorified video recorder replacement - since the video is effectively dead (Thanks Dixons).

I haven`t got a recorder yet, which is why I keep an eye on this Forum and hoped that if others knew anything about this unit, we could figure out if the £199 price tag was justified compared to a £120 Liteon.

I have already decided that I don`t want a RAM recorder just because of comptibility issues with kit I already have. Please keep the DVD format war out of my thread, as it is not relevant. I only mentioned the Panny as a it is regarded as a good bit of kit and is typically the same price as the Targa..

I`m losing patience with the rantings that go on on this forum and will look elsewhere for help/advice. Shame really, as it helped greatly in the purchase of my Medion portable DVD player.

Lidl DVD Recorder - 16th Dec

Anyone seen the fliers for Lidl DVD recorder starting 16th Dec?
Haven`t got the full info to hand and it`s not on their web site yet.

Targa DR5100X - £199

DVD -RW/+RW
Scart in/out
RCA in/out
SVHS in/out
Component out (progressive scan)
Firewire in

Seems to have every type of i/o possible. Looks incredibly slim.

Anybody know anything about it
It`s not as cheap as the Liteon`s or some of the other budget recorders - in fact it is now in the same price bracket as Panny E55.

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Ended up buying 2!! Should stop the inevitable squabbling later on (though little `un is only 4 months at the moment) - well, that`s my excuse!!

RE: Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Thanks for that Moviemonster, I`ll be heading down at lunchtime to pick one up. It sounds too good to miss. Guess I`ll need to buy some DVD`s now ;-) (this will be my first player - have my sights on a Liteon 5006 also).

I`d have thought that the barrery (Li) should keep it`s charge until Xmas, but I don`t suppose there`s any harm giving it a top-up charge Xmas eve as no memory efect with LI.

Cheers, Pete.

Medion MD42167 Portable DVD

Has anyone bought or tried the Medion MD42167 portable DVD player/TFT screen on sale in Toys R Us? At £149.99 inc lithium-ion battery, car power cable, AV cable, car mounting bag/carry case, ear phone, remote and mains power supply, it seems a bargain. It also features AV in (not very common), so you can always hook up a games console.
Can`t find any info on it, Google just turns up the Toys R Us site and I`ve even tried the Medion German site (with a bit of Bable Fish), but the player is not even listed.
I`d buy one, but if its no good, Toys R Us don`t have an xx day returns policy - they will only take back unopened, untried goods or something that`s faulty :( .

Any had any experience with one?

Cheers, Pete.
