SONIX 26" LCD Panel for £499 at Sainsburys

I had to look twice at this in my local store as it looked so much like SONY on the front!

Well it seems to pack a lot of sockets round the back including twin scart sockets. No idea about RGB etc but it looked impressive for the money. Little buttons on the side (bottom right hand corner) and speaker was below the screen (not two).

No doubt in the fullness of time we`ll learn more but was tempted (nearly) as I want a large enough one with twin scarts and get on my Nationwide Visa (for free 2nd yr gtee).

The Sainsburys was in Bexleyheath (not a Savacentre, has few electricals indeed).

I know what you mean about the badge on the front - I saw one of these on Saturday in the Meadowhall Savacentre and had to have a second look. It does look nice for the money but my local Comet is doing a 26" Samsung LCD for £799 which I think would be a better bet in the long run.

In the long run, the Samsung will probably be down to £300 the way prices of media seems to be going, and you`ll have saved this. No doubt they`ll have integrated Freeview but it seems to me to be the best deal in the Beko price bracket.

I do wonder if the way they`ve done the lettering SONY could sue. I`m sure they`ve done it to fool a few people. Still Sainsburys do offer good deals and it`s one of the first screens I`ve seen at this price with 2 scarts. The integrated stand wasn`t too bad, just wonder if there`s a saving to be had at Sainsburys apart from a £5 voucher, cheap petrol etc..

The reasons the badge is so similar to the Sony one are that (a) it seems to use the same font and (b) the top half of the letters are almost identical to the top half of the Sony logo.

This second point is important because the eye picks up the top half of letters before the bottom half, sometimes discarding the bottom half completely. Try covering the bottom half of the letters in this sentence - you will still be able to read it perfectly - but if you cover the top half you will find it difficult to read.

The last letter of the SONIX logo might as well be a Y because the top halves of these capital letters are identical. The letter I before the Y is a bit of a cheat too because it is in lower case (`i`) in contrast to the rest of the word - so the eye jumps from the N to the X and reads it as SONY.

How long do you think it will be before Sony insist that Sainsbury`s withdraw these TVs?

If I get one, I`ll be telling friends it`s a SON.. The more I think of it the more I am tempted. The only issues are getting a five year gtee free at John Lewis on large screen - actually that`s only 1 - so there`s little competition, just need the specs from somewhere.

Its a Sonix LB2600 (LB3200 for the 32"), but can`t find any infor on the net. I was impressed with the sound options button (voice, music, personal etc) and the picture (soft, warm, sharpe, personal). It had teletext. They were demoing a dvd - but were unable to use a tv signal.

Would be interesting to know if its dolby or what the speaks/sound is for it, though it sounded good considering the store was busy and it was near the doors.

Hey all,

Is this a generic model?

Only I found this www.inter-shop.dk/shop/default.asp?ProductID=7111 orion LB2600. Specs are on this site, any idea if it`s the same (there is a picture which may give a clue)?

Regards
Max
