Cheap hard drives at Maplins
Maplins are selling 120 gig hard drives for £69-99 but only until the weekend. If you go to their web site and sign up for their newsletter then you get £6 off and free P & P, bringing it down to £63-99.
Be quick if you`re interested as they`ll go fast at that price.
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
dammit I may just have to get me one of those.
Bit wary as it doesnt show make or model.
Some manufacturers are better than others!.
Anyone purchased one of these and knows what make/model it is?
Nice spot anyway as I say may be tempted :D
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
They are Hitachi / IBM but you may find them cheaper at E-buyer.
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
eBuyer is £68.98 with delivery
Maplin is £63.99 inc. del. if £6 voucher is used
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
Thanks for spotting this offer, i`ve picked up one meself :)
Hmmm lots of storage... ;)
Makes me chukle to think my first PC had a 30Mb HDD :)
I couldn`t think of anything witty.
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
Same here...although mine was 20Mb!
I now have 320Gb of hard drive space (before the formatting!)...but at the prices people are selling them at (under 70p per Gig!) it would be rude not to :)
"I didn`t lose my mind, it was mine to give away"
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
I know I`m gonna sound really dumb here but does anyone have links to installing a hard drive for a beginner, I`ve opened my PC up and I just can`t see where I would fit an extra one in. Is it usual to just take the old one out and not have two running? Sorry if this seems a bit basic but all I`ve done before is add memory and change a graphics card.
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
HDD prices fluctuate that is why I said "maybe" cheaper.
Regarding first HDD's mine was 10Mb.

Try here http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/howto/story/0,24330,3322450,00.html. The Haynes Computer Manual is also worth buying, imho. It explains stuff like this pretty straightfowardly.
It`s usually a fair bit easier to add a second hard drive than replace your existing one, as long as your pc has a slot for a second one. Completely replacing a hard drive isn`t that difficult though, although I`ve not done it myself :D .
RE: Cheap hard drives at Maplins
Just to add that mine first was a 1 Gig, slapped it into a A1200, My dads first was only 20gig, from a super fast compaq 286 with 4mb of ram costing £3000 for a dot matrix, and a Modem, before the internet, wow, i didnt see this coming, wouldnt be in a mess if i did.
Thank you
