Cheap R1 and R2 Discs, and great Comparison sites

Wedge G (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 17th January 2001, 19:18

There are two good sites for cheap DVD`s

the first is http://www.play247.com which most people have already heard of. They stocked R1, R2, plus cds and games. The only annoying thing witht hem is that delivery can take a long time.

The best R1 site I have found is a canadian company - http://www.dv-depot.com, who have just improved their delivery system (was three weeks, now just three days)

best places to compare prices are:

http://www.dvdupdate.com

Have you dealed with www.dv-depot.com before? The prices are shown in US money, and you can convert the prices into UK £`s, but what other charges are there? Delivery perhaps?

Thanks Mike, but I`ve checked them both out and I must admit dv-depot.com seem to be alot better. They also offer all of the sames a dvdboxoffice.com, plus customs friendly packaging, and an option to have them delivered together or not.

You`ll have to check their features for yourself, as they seem to have totally updated their service, and if I was to order from someone, it`d most probably be them.

I placed my first order with dv-depot last thursday evening, and DHL delivered them on Wednesday morning. Coyote Ugly, Cruel Intentions and Gone in 60 Seconds all received in perfect condition, with the discs wrapped in kitchen roll to protect them!

Not bad for £47!!!

I`ll definitely use them again

At the moment I have been using these two services downbelow. Yeah they may be a bit more money but I also like to have TOP services and back by a good customer support desk. In which these two do this.

WORD OF WARNING: If the package containing DVDs is worth less than £18, then you don`t pay VAT and IMPORT DUTY. If the value exceeds this you are liable to import duty. The postman will demand the money before handing the discs over. There is also a post office clearance fee to pay (I think it`s £1.50) in addition to the VAT and IMPORT duty. Sometimes you get lucky and you don`t pay. When I had a box of discs arrive via DHL I was not asked for any duty payments - great I thought. However 1 to 2 weeks later an invoice arrived from DHL for the duty due plus a whopping £10 administration charge. Therefore I suggest being careful and order 1 DVD at a time to avoid duty even if postal charges are more. Avoid DHL shipments as you get stung if duty is payable.

Another place to compare DVD prices is :

http://www.bestpricedvd.co.uk/

a bit slow, but does give some good prices occasionally.
