Page 1 of ARC connection

So, since getting my LG 49UH770V telly, I now have a Sony UBP-X800 4K disc player and a Pioneer
VSX330 4K amp.
All pretty good so far, although I have since realised that I can't passthrough the 4K signal from the player to the TV via the amp, because although itsupports 4K, it doesn't support HDR.
Anyway, I was trying to set up the ARC connection with the TV. Right type of cable connected to the right connections on both pieces of equipment. Audio output on TV switched to HDMI ARC and audio input on amp switched to TV...silence.
Any ideas? I am sure it has to be a setting onthe amp that I'm missing but I can't find anything.

I think my amp just worked (different brand to yours, but I'm sure it doesn't matter that much) although there are options on it for enabling HDMI control.
The TV I did have to turn on ARC for HDMI though.
It could also be what input you have mapped to the TV input on your amp, mine lets you choose what HDMI output matches what device, along with digital and RCA inputs. Perhaps your TV input is not mapped to the ARC HDMI input?

Thanks for answering. It's definitely mapped correctly. I've decided not to be too geeky about it & just connect up with an old digital optical cable, which works just fine!

Hearing you talk like that gets me all hot and bothered. Ever thought of premium rate phone lines? 😏
We are an odd bunch, aren't we!

It came to me in the dead of night, as most things do. The poxy HDMI cable I used was only 2.0 so it was compatible with 4K and HDR. I needed an HDMI 2.2 lead to get the ARC connection to work. Ordered one from Amazon. All should be good tomorrow!
