No penalties in World Cup final- Another Sepp Blatter random idea

Fifa boss Blatter said "When it comes to the World Cup final it is passion and when it goes to extra time it is a drama. But when it comes to penalties it is a tradegy. Maybe we could replay the match if it`s the final- though you can`t do that all tournament due to lack of time- or maybe we could take players away and play golden goal" :/

Right so if it goes past normal extra time I`m pressuming each team loses a player every 5mins until you end up with 3 on 3 with rush/go fly(pick your own regional variation on this here) keepers.

Great idea Sepp, right up there with making women footballers play in shorter shorts. ;)

I agree that a World/Euro/FA/League Cups should not end in penalties.

My preferred solution is the `Silver Goal`. Keep playing for 15 minute periods until there is a winner.

I have yet to hear a better alternative to penalties. `Golden Goal` is awful.

Personally I thnk penalties should stay.

I accept that for some poor guy he has to miss / have his penalty saved BUT penalties are a part of the game and you cant deny the tension and excitement that builds in a shootout (Istanbul 2005 - god I was tense, nervous, praying yet excited and christ did the roof come off when Dudek Saved)

GOlden Goal is crap

Silver goal is almost as bad, you score after 14 mins and 59 seconds and it is effectively golden goal as the whistle goes 1 second later

Removing players - get real, its an 11 a side game (barring sending offs) and thats how it shoudl finish

Basically its Sepp Blatter once again trying to make some form of legacy for himself. Seems to me he`s achieving this year on year by making us remember him as the biggest tit on the planet

The drama of a penalty shootout can be thrilling but it`s a really s***ty way to lose a game. A while ago I flippantly mentioned to someone that extra time should go on indefinitely until someone scores with players dropping like flies due to heat exhaustion and cramp. I think this proposal by Blatter is an interesting one and I`d like to see it in action.

Maybe, but the other team had 14 mins and 58 seconds to go ahead.

A game should be decided on skill and tactics, not on who has the most bottle in a pressure situation.

So presumably penalties are devoid of skill??

Do you not think that purely playing in a world cup final requires bottle and an ability to handle pressure (look at Brazil in France 1998, they didnt have it that day) does that mean the french shouldnt have won

A game can be decided by a penalty in 90 minutes so I dont really see why it cant be a decideder in a shoot out TBH

with that argument you may aswell play golden goal and be done with it then

Heard someone suggest on the radio t`other day last team to score wins.
Presumably if it`s level after extra time.
At least it gives one side incentive to keep trying to score.

How about if it`s level after 90 minutes both sides revert to 5 aside and play 20 mins,First to score 2 wins.

After watching a dvd of Women In Love last evening, Sepp Blatter now proposes deciding drawn games by having the coaches wrestle nude in the centre circle.
