Question, how much music at any one time?

If upto around 10 CDs look at a 512MB flash drive (cheap on ebay)?
If you want to carry hundreds look at the more expensive hard drive type (Ipod etc..)

Also flash drives are more suited for use during exercise (no moving parts to jar).

You must mean dual layer DVDRs?
It obviously plays DVD9s (original dual layers), but I don`t have any dual layer DVDRs to test.

Not sure how well it works with freeview.
it depends on the EPG, very usefull with SKY and highly recommended.

I had the Ellion quoted in the related thread (vertical lines prob).

I now have a Yamada 8400X which has been great.
Not sure about NICAM though, I don`t have an aerial connection (used for recording from SKY+).
Similar spec to Ellion, but no problems at all with mine.
Check ebuyer, mine was £126 delivered. Maplin also sell them search for `DVR MPEG4`

I like my Yamada 8400X, also has the bonus of DivX playback!

The DVD+RW discs have played on all my other machines.
Although I tend to record onto DVD+RW then copy onto DVD-R with my computer to archive.

I almost bought one (had it in my hands), but the box only mentions coaxial connections, no optical?
My current player has a long optical lead running round the room to my amp.
Decided not to risk it.

I took 2 back back then got my money back.
Both had faint vertical lines on all playback, also the RGB input was too bright.

Update....

Phoned SCAN and explained it was a replacement with the same fault.
They said I could try another or get a refund, I got my money back.

Think I`ll wait for the next generation of recorders before buying another.

Got mine back last night, a replacement (checked serail numbers).

First complaint, cables and manual missing from box!!
Connected up and it still has the faint vertical lines on DVD playback!

Going to phone up this morning and ask for my money back!

I can`t recommend this recorder as it`s not met any of my expectations:
Progressive Scan setup, locks up the machine on MPEG playback.
Vertical lines on DVDs
RGB too bright
RGB scart doesn`t pass though in standby, and loses WSS.

Simple answer is YES.
However if you don`t curently have 2 premium channels, I don`t think I would pay an additional £10.

Just had ro return mine to SCAN.

DVDs are playing back with 2 faint vertical lines.
Also complained about the brightness of the RGB input and locking up when trying to play MPEG files whilst set up for progressive scan.

I was offered a new firmware disc (but I don`t think it will help), why is this not on the Ellon website for download?

I`ll post what happens with the return.

Further update to my Ellion set up.
I connected and configured it for Progressive Scan to my JVC LCD TV.

A problem exists when configured for progressive scan, no MPEG or DivX playback is possible (the machine needs unplugging to reset it from a lock up!!).
Once congifured back to normal, no sound is present on MPEG (not sure about DivX) untill a DVD is played (which works and seems to reset things).
Think I`ll forward my findongs to Ellion, anybody got an email address that works??

OK, my last post is due a follow up.
After some advice from Rik, I`m now happy.

I`ve got the following setup:
SKY+ scart to JVC LCD TV (RGB and widescreen switching)
SKY+ SVHS to DVD Recorder
DVD recorder scart out to TV (RGB working)
DVD recorder Component Out to TV (still needs to be setup).

Recordings are great in HQ and SP mode (not tried the others yet).
Only recorded on DVD+RW so far, but have succesfully edited out ad breaks etc.. with the hide chapter function. These have then been copied to DVD-R on the PC.
DVD playing appears very good.
Plays Xvid and raw MPEG well.

Multi region hack is 7,7,0 with no disc present (doesn`t work everytime!!)
The other Ellion hack on this website 3,8,0,0 sets the sound to zero, be warned!! To reset it do 3,8,5.

I`ve sacrifised RGB for SVHS recording, but it`s just as good as the original SKY footage when played back (which is what it`s going to be used for).

One last point of note, the USB connection lets you connect a USB card reader and then any memory card you want. This method will probably reveal the limits on memory size (128 MB quoted in manual, but 256 is supposed to have been tested).

I bought one on Saturday too.

Having trouble succesfully setting it up :-(

Can only watch my SKY+ when the Ellion is turned on!
I have the SKY+ box (TV out) to Ellion scart in , and then scart to TV.
RGB works fine but widescreen switching is also getting lost somewhere!
Will phone them in the morning.
Anyone know the best setup? I thought this was it.
