Best DVD recorder for under £150?

jimbob78 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 29th May 2005, 20:45

Hi everyone, I`m currently looking for a good DVD recorder for under a 150 pounds. What does everyone suggest? I have no idea about them. Does it make any difference if you have to record through RF instead of Scart? Someone please help me!

CyberHome CH-DVR 750 available at ASDA for £99.96. If you want to record analogue terrestrial, that`s fine for the RF input. If you want to record anything else (Sky/ Freeview/ Cable/ VHS), you need to use the SCART input, or the composite video CAM inputs as the signal quality is far superior to a signal that`s been converted to RF and back again.

No, we`ve all enjoyed it immensely.

Are Asda still selling these recorders? I had a look in my local one the other day and didn`t see any! Does this machine copy onto all formats, and does it record in Nicam? And does anyone own or use one of these machines?
I`ve also read that these machines overheat. Would it be a problem to place a Sky Digital box on top of it? (I`m a bit short of space at the moment)
One last question, what brand of discs would you suggest to use with the recorder?
I would like another Cyberhome product after I managed to get hold of a CH-DVD505 player in a Richer Sounds open-box sale a few years back, and it`s been great (Thanks to this site, as a matter of fact!)
Thanks again :)

BTW What is progressive scan?
