RE: Help!! Where can I get star wars posters from UK web site

Do they have them on www.postershop.co.uk?

RE: Dolby Pro-Logic on Yamaha Receiver

I`m using all Monitor Audio Silver stuff, including 9i fronts and 12c centre. They all use the same drivers & tweeters so they SHOULD sound the same. One time I got fed up and plugged one of my front speakers into the centre outputs and that sounded quite bad (in the same way as the 12c does)

I was thinking of upgrading my amp anyway so I guess I will find out one way or another...

RE: Dolby Pro-Logic on Yamaha Receiver

I usually have the same problem. I find the sound from the centre speaker is bad when using Prologic mode on my amp (Yamaha DSP-A5).

I have set up the amp so that bass for the centre speaker goes to my sub, but it still sounds crap in Prologic mode. No problems with Dolby Digital.

Maybe it`s just a poor Prologic decoder in Yamaha kit?

RE: Question for all wide-screen television owners..........

My TV (Philips 32PW6305) has this feature. Good set too, and probably a lot cheaper than £1000.

Sigma Designs site gone?

Hi,

Is anyone else having trouble getting to www.sigmadesigns.com?

I`m looking for Win2K drivers for RealMagic DVD card if anyone has another site...

Thanks
Fergus

RE: Marantz 4100 OSE

2/5 for performance??? They must have connected it up with composite video using bellwire or something.

I use a Cambridge Audio gold scart (20 quid) into a Philips 32PW6305. Last DVD I watched was American Pie and the picture quality made me go "wow". Whether you care to put that down to the player, or the disc, the fact is that I never saw a disc look as good on my old machine.

I think you will be happy.

BTW it can be region hacked v. easily, albeit with the use of a one-for-all remote. Procedure is available on this site.

What else... plays CD-Rs fine. VERY quiet in operation. On screen menus are decent. It remembers the position you stopped watching on each of the last twenty discs - pop the disc back in and you can resume where you left off. Seems to use standard Philips remote codes so no problems if you want to use a universal remote (I`m hoping for a Pronto from Santa)

RE: Marantz 4100 OSE

I bought one a month or two ago. Ironically enough I have played way more CDs on it than DVDs. Main reason I bought it was for decent CD playback, which turned out to be true. Lovely sound.

DVDs look nice & sharp. Vivid colours. Way better than my old Scan player (which was the latest version and wasn`t actually too bad in itself). No blockies seen on any disc yet. Some grain problems on parts of crap discs (e.g. Antz) but I blame the discs for that.

Sorry I`m not much of a reviewer but if you have questions I might be able to answer them.

Did Hifi Choice really slag it off?

RE: Philips 32PW6315 - A good buy?

I own one of these (ie 6305) if you have any Q`s

RE: Hell Freezes Over

Don Felder left (early this year I think) and is now sueing them for $$$

RE: Vivastar 80 min CD-R Problems!

I also bought the Vivastar CDs and found about 10% were bad. The CD writer (HP 9200i) would write the data but the CDs were unreadable afterwards.

I would not buy that brand again.

RE: When playing audio CD`s on my SC2000 it sometimes just stops playing.

They replaced my first machine because of this problem.

It *is* a fault after all.

RE: Official SC2000 Firmware V2.23 Online

I tried to play a DTS CD last weekend on my Scan. It is connected by a co-ax cable to the digital input on my Yamaha DSP-A5. I also noticed a gap of 1-2 seconds at the start of each track.

I found out though that the amp was causing this. Basically I had set the input on the amp to "DVD/LD AUTO" which means it will accept input on either the analog DVD in (i.e. left & right phono), the optical DVD in or the digital co-ax DVD in. It takes the amp a second or two at the start of each track to select which input is actually active.

I solved the problem by switching the amp to "DVD/LD DTS" and the gaps disappeared...

Could something similar be happening to you?

RE: Sony STRDB940 v Yamaha DSPA5

I quite like the DSPA5 remote. It is semi-programmable, ie you can use it to control your TV, VCR, CD, DVD, as long as you have the four-digit code from the manufacturer. The manual that comes with the amp has a big collection of numbers for all the popular brands. I can control my TV, VCR and cable box (as well as the amp obviously :)

RE: SCAN OWNERS WHO UPGRADE -DO U USE CDR OR CDRW?

I use a closed session CD-RW with all of the firmware versions
in the root dir (TDVD-000.rom, TDVD-001.rom, TDVD-002.rom etc)

Then I can pick the version I want to load using the Volume +/-
in the SSW screen. Has always worked fine.

Here`s something to consider (don`t panic)

I remember reading about the flash upgrade for the MPEG card in my PC. It mentioned that the chip (EEPROM?) could only be programmed a finite number of times before it would die. In that case it was a thousand times or something of that order.

Is it possible that the firmware upgrade for a SCAN can only be applied a number of times before the chip fries? How many times have you changed version Xeno??!!

Fergus

RE: SC2000 - picture problems, firmware downgrades - solution and explanation?

I`ve been wondering about these picture problems too. I thought the player just delivered an MPEG stream off the DVD to a hardware decoder chip which generated the pictures. How does the firmware version affect this process?

RE: Scan Sc-2000 - One For All remote control code and firmware

Anyone know if the One For All codes are
the same as those used by the remote
control for the Yamaha DSP-A5?

RE: Scan DVD 2000 not playing audio CD`s

I had the audio CD problem too and upgrading to 204s fixed it.

Fergus

RE: Scan SC2000 DVD Player - How do I determine my current Firmware Version ?

It`s the second one, i.e. you have v1.50.

I didn`t think versions before v1.64 COULD be upgraded but maybe I`m wrong on that.

RE: SCAN 2000 MP3 playback order

Strange. Shuffle works just fine for me with MP3s. Insert CD,
press "shuffle" on remote, press play.

BTW you know you can put the MP3s into directories don`t you?

Fergus

RE: Scan SC2000 and DTS

I had the DTS problem with my machine, which came with
firmware v187. When I upgraded it to v204s, the problem
went away.

No probs with skipping though.

Fergus

RE: Scan SC2000 not too bad for mp3, but ...

> - Display a JPG or a GIF picture corresponding to the
> directory of the currently played file (toggled on/off with
> the Display button

Now THAT`S a cool idea.

RE: Message for Nelley.

Well you got to admit that`s a little different. Take a look at the kind of posts you see here about Scan - crap machine, terrible customer service, etc etc. Surely they wouldn`t want that on their own site where a prospective customer could see it?

RE: Message for Nelley.

Why would it not be a good idea?

Hmmm now that I think about it, you don`t want a forum full of posts complaining about problems on the same site which is trying to sell the players in the first place...

At least they could add a file download area for firmware updates.
