Closed session CD-R burned with Nero 5.3.8 and WinOnCD 3.8PE and also CD-RW (cheap 4x no name brand and HP 2X) with WinOnCD 3.8PE (several times). No problems reported.

I use a closed session CD-RW with all of the firmware versions
in the root dir (TDVD-000.rom, TDVD-001.rom, TDVD-002.rom etc)

Then I can pick the version I want to load using the Volume +/-
in the SSW screen. Has always worked fine.

Here`s something to consider (don`t panic)

I remember reading about the flash upgrade for the MPEG card in my PC. It mentioned that the chip (EEPROM?) could only be programmed a finite number of times before it would die. In that case it was a thousand times or something of that order.

Is it possible that the firmware upgrade for a SCAN can only be applied a number of times before the chip fries? How many times have you changed version Xeno??!!

The firmware is most likely stored in Flash EEPROM in the Scan. The upgrade is 512KB so it is a big file. On this assumption the device can be re-programmed more times than you could re-program it. Don`t worry about it.

CDRWIN CDROM-XA MODE1 at 4 speed using CD-RW media

Finaliaze session enabled.

I`ve always used CD-RW media burned with CDRWIN 3.8c in CDROM Mode1 @ 2x (my rewriter will only burn on CDRW @ 2x!) ALWAYS Close/Finalize & Write Postgap.

Something I noticed in the firmware changes txt file...

V1.95
(1) Support to update program code on Multiple Vendor`s Flash ROMs.
(AMIC/EON/AMD/SYNCMOS/HYNDAI/SST)

This implies that the flash update code in earlier versions of firmware is not as `manufacturer` aware and MAY be the reason why some updates fail. Those who downgrade to v1.80 from v1.95 or above take a risk that the v1.80 EEPROM update code will not be able `burn` a newer version of firmware into the EEPROM. The only thing I can say is that v1.92 understands how to burn `AMIC` EEPROMs and I`ve a sneaky suspicion that the code was designed for this manufacturer from the outset as most of the ancilliary support chips are also made by AMIC.

There is 2 kind of firmware update, one for the CS4955 and one for the ADV7175 chipset.
That is why some players are killed when they are upgraded.
If you use a firmware release for a CS4955 instead of a ADV7172 and vice versa... then you kill your player.

So you must use the good firmware to update. Just ask you local dealer for teh update.
To check which chipset you have it is very veyr easy. In the SSW menu check TV ENCODER DEVICE name .

I have a SC-2000 purchased around september last year. According to the firmware screen mine is version 103. I attempted to upgrade to version 2.14 which was sent to me by ylleN[at]nacS but nothing appears to happens when I put the firmware disc in the player (?). The LCD display shows the disc is in as it displays track 01 but I wondered if you need to press play on the remote or should it update automatically (I think the instructions are a bit misleading). Any help appreciated.

Bad news Andy. If you have firmware below v1.64 your machine is NOT flash upgradeable. You will have to speak to Nelley again.

For more info on your player check out the FAQ:
