Argos `Digital Camera` - valid return?

kissmymonkeysdonkey (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 13th August 2002, 00:45

I know this has nothing to do with DVD`s, but I need some advice, and therefore apologise profusely in advance.

Story cut short:
Bought digital camera (Fuji Finepix A201) from Argos 3-4 months ago; checked it was working etc. etc., did not have time to install included `photographic software`, and then went abroad - forgetting camera!!!
I have just come back, and lo-and-behold I can not get the software to install and the battery life is rubbish!

Question is: Am I within my rights to return the camera, and if so, am I likely to get a refund/credit note/new camera?
Really, I want my money back, but would accept a credit note. Does anyone know if I have any chance, and if not ... anyone want to buy a `good camera`?

p.s. I have receipts etc., but wonder whether `software` problems are covered by guarantee?

Thanks in advance of any help.

Argos are usually very good at refunds if everything is as new in box with receipt. I have the Fuji 4.0 fine pix & it is one of the best things I ever bought. Battery life is known to be very bad in ALL digital cameras. I have never taken notice of how many pic`s each charge gives me but at a guess it is about 40. I bought a second set of batteries & always carry as a spare. Hope this helps.

Hi

I have one of the older Fuji MX 1200 and to cut the cost of the batteries use the rechargable nimh with the larger 1300 to 1600 mah size AA.

On some websites you can get the charger and the batteries for around £18 but if you pay more you can get faster chargers [ 2hr or so ]

I use a card reader for the uploading not the camera on batteries or use the makers only mains adapter [ cheaper usually to get a card reader ] £20 to £30 around.

bye

R.B

Warning if the batteries cutout when uploading or picture taking you can damage the card. And as for Argos i dont think they will accept the return.

Thanks for the help - I will attempt to return the camera in the next couple of days, and update on success (or lack of it!).

As for battery life, decent quality `AA` batteries last about 25-35 shots (with lcd screen on). I don`t know whether this is standard, or whether there is something amiss with my particular camera.

I have been told that uploading to pc, batteries will last minutes, and that a card-reader is essential - not a luxury!

yeah, that`s fine. I have a MX1200 at the moment, I just wondered if it was worse than that. But the 101 has 2 less batteries but a 30% decrease in battery usage. supposedly. I guees it swings and roundabouts. Smart Media card reader I have, so I guess with LCD I`ll be looking at 40 shots or so. We`ll see. Particularly if Amazon ever get round to delivering the thing - 2 weeks now and they`ve just been delayed for another week. good deal though at £109.99

UPDATE:
Argos refunded my purchase price - in full - with a smile, and an apology!

Well done Argos!

Now, anyone know of a cheap/mid-range (£100-£160) digital camera, with decent battery life, and simple to use?
Also, where can I buy cheapish card reader?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hi `kissmymonkeysdonkey `In todays Daily Mirror on page 40, they have a page dedicated to new hi tec items. There is a Kodak camera (available in September) called the Easyshare CX4210. It seems you press `Share` to email pics to your friends. It is £149.99. & 2 megapix, also 2 time zoom. I expect it would be possible to buy cheaper on line. Having a Fuji & being very happy with it I would buy another. But at the price the Kodak looks good value to me. I hope this may be of help.
