RE: Monsters Inc £2.99 at Richer Sounds (yes really) - free P&P

Checked the Newcastle branch. Out of stock but expecting some in on Thursday.

RE: Sony 20gb portable music player £149.99

Although they ask you to initialize the hard drive (which wipes it) it will probably get wiped during the upgrade anyway. Also you might not get the same unit you sent in back.

Checking a track back in will actually increase the number of times you can check it out.

Create ATRAC

Atrac file can be transferred 3 times

Transfer to HD / MD = 1 check out, leaving 2 remaining
Check track back in - check outs go back to 3

THe checkout system is designed to limit the number of copies of a file you can have transferred out at one time. It`s a DRM really to try and deter piracy. Unfortunately, it just annoys users and puts off potential users.

RE: Sony 20gb portable music player £149.99

The reason you get gaps in when you convert and transfer are twofold.

a) Player searching for the next track
b)When MP3 (and presumably ATRAC) files are created the sound is actually made up of frames if the end of a song doesn`t exactly match the end of a frame then it is padded out with silence.

The general consensus among among Hi-MD users is 64kps ATRAC3plus loses too much quality. Unfortunately the only other setting for ATRAC3plus is 256kps. I think most people tend to use the LP2 setting which is 132kps.

RE: Sony 20gb portable music player £149.99

SonicStage is considered to be poor. Not sure if simple burner works with the HD models (it`s designed for Minidisc). There used to be a Real Player plugin to convert tracks to ATRAC but I don`t know if it`s still available.

RE: Argos - old catalogue clearance list now online!

Thanks for the heads up

Had loads of digital cameras and mobile phones labelled as clearance behind the counter in the Washington Galleries Branch today.

RE: mico home theatre system only £29.99 at sainsburys

5.1 = front, rear, centre + subwoofer

RE: Woolworths mobiles - absolutely astounding deals!!!

Woolies site seems awfully so at the moment :(

RE: Argos clearance 75% *OFF* loads of items, starts Fri Oct 8

B*gger all left at the metrocentre and Sunderland Branches :(

Metrocentre had a vodafone 3510 For £50
SUnderland had a panasonic mobile for £60

RE: Dual Layer DVD Rewriter

The 2510A is dual layer anyway. The 2500A can be flashed to make it a 2510A. (edit)

check here for latest on hacked firmware for NEC`s. I know there`s been some work done on the 3500A firmware for increasing burn speeds and quality with some media.

LiteON DVD recorder £169.99

On offer at Dabs this week if anyone is interested.

RE: Aldi 160Gb Internal HDD

I think they are clearing stock. They had loads of these in my local branch a few weeks ago, along with the 256Mb USB 2.0 memory sticks for £35 (paid £50 for mine)

RE: ALDI Gericom Laptop £999.99 From 2nd September

Similarly there was one left at Westerhope (Newcastle) last weekend and they had lots of other stuff from other offers ( internal HD`s - unsure of price and USB 2.0 256Mb pen drives for £35).

RE: SVP 99p shipping weekend!

Also doing the NEC 3500A (16x write single layer, 4 x dual layer) for £49.95

RE: Cheap phone calls

Not sure but 0808 numbers are normally free.

RE: Cheap phone calls

Use them for work calls from home - cheaper and easier to separate them for expenses (and keeps the taxman happy).

Been raved about in the forums at www.adslguide.org.uk seem reliable and I would recommend them highly.

Thanks for the heads up about free calls to landlines.
