Cheap phone calls

Searcher (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 8th June 2004, 12:53

From an earlier thread someone mentioned a phone company called www.call18866.co.uk. I joined up primarily because I make business calls to Spain, Brazil and Asia - all of which with 18866 were 1p per minute anytime. To date, I have had no problems with them as long as you don`t want any frills and don`t mind dialling 18866 before your number. However, I have a friend who had problems with the signing up procedure too...but has managed now.

But yesterday it got even better with calls anytime to UK landlines at 0.5p per minute with a 1p connection charge.

This could be useful for people who don`t want an all inclusive anytime plan (such as BT Together 3), and/or like me, have felt cheated by BT in the past.

I don`t work for them and am sure there are many other offerings but can anyone else beat 0.5p per minute peak rate?

I`ll just echo your sentiments about 18866. Top class company with the best rates I`ve ever seen. And now ½p per minute national and local calls means that daytime calling, without paying for a specific plan, is top darts!

Yeah I second that. I have had a very good/near excellent service from Call18866 and have mentioned it a few times in bargain buckets. Sometimes/rarely though I`ll dial the number and the line`s dead or engaged - but try on BT and you get through - might just be coincidence though.

from their web page:
Quote:
(27.04.2004) New 0808 number for access via cable!

Good news for all NTL, Telewest, other non-BT landline and mobile customers! Due to great demand you can now also benefit from cheap 18866-rates via our dedicated freephone number 0808 170 77 88*!
So you can also use it you`re an NTL customer - which you couldn`t before!

And no I don`t work for them or have any connection - just think they`re worth mentioning to everyone. :)

Cheers Niteowl

Call 18866 has now made UK landline calls, unbeliveably..FREE!! Other than a 1p connection fee on each call. I couldn`t work out why on earth the recorded message kept saying `this call is free`, I thought it was a glitch :D

Use them for work calls from home - cheaper and easier to separate them for expenses (and keeps the taxman happy).

Been raved about in the forums at www.adslguide.org.uk seem reliable and I would recommend them highly.

Thanks for the heads up about free calls to landlines.

Well since my post above things unbelievably got cheaper. Calls to UK landlines used to be 1p per minute, then 0.5p per minute..... now a remarkably cheap 0p per minute!!! Just pay the 1p connection charge.

:) ....doesn`t appear to be any call time limit. There is only one national UK `fee` quoted as free. Also, those natty little binatone cordless phones argos were knocking out cheap last month have a call re-direction facility so you don`t even have to dial the pin number.
