goodmans Gdvd301R recorder - trying to play DVD-RW from another recorder!!!

I have just purchases one of these GDVD301R DVD recorders from Tescos to replace a 4kUS recorder (a different branded LITEON 5005 I believe) I had. However all the re-writable discs I try to use that were previously recorded on my Liteon come up with the message

"This disc has the wrong manual. Do you want to update the manual - Yes - No"

If you select No the disc cannot be payed or read. If you say Yes the contents come up in the correct format and play ok but their is no sound. I have tried discs recorded on the goodmans directly and they play fine with sound so the connections are fine. the sound option when selected specifies that the sound is "1:1 AC3-Stereo - Unknown". I have come across a similar issue on my PC DVD player with needing to update the PC with an AC3-filter download. Does this DVD player need the same thing? Is their a firmware upgrade to fix this issue?

I tried playing a disc from a Compacs 101 recorder I had before the 4kUS and they play fine without the updating the manual message. (note the thread here of 3 different DVD recorders in 1 year, me thinks the technology is not yet very good!!!)

Is their a way of getting the sound back as otherwise all my previously recorded discs are unusable and my little girl will not have her Tweenies etc.

Any help appreciated

RE: Hack needed for 4KUS DVD-Recorder from ASDA!!!!

brilliant, what a star. Tried the hack and worked perfectly.

Thanks.

Do you know any other codes for other hidden menu`s. Macrovision turned off by any chance?

Hack needed for 4KUS DVD-Recorder from ASDA!!!!

I need a multi-region and a macrovision hack for the 4KUS DVD-Recorder from ASDA!!!!

Can you help? I cannot find any references to it anywhere. As it is only £139 in ASDA I would have thought a few people might have been out to buy one by now.

RE: re:compacks dvd-101(drw-101)

I have been experiencing the same problem. I can only see the output from the 101 via scart and no output is able to be tuned in on the TV.

Has anyone experienced the problem of the 101 not recognising channels as being active or receiving a signal when they try to use the Timer Record function? No matter which of the 7 channels or AV 1-3 I try they all say they are not getting a signal but in Live mode the signals are fine on those channels?

RE: Compacks Dvd Recorder - Vcr Problem

I had exacly the same problem. You do get a 3-phono to 3-phono connector with the 101 so you could look at the back of your VCR,see if it has phono-out sockets and connect it to the phono-in sockets on your DVD recorder. Or get a scart plug with phono connectors on the back of it which cost only a couple of quid and it works fine on AV1.

I found the easiest and cheapest (it is not the best for quality) way to connect the VCR to the 101 was using the aerial out from the vcr connected to the aerial in on the 101 and then the scart on the 101 to the TV. To tune the VCR in to the 101 connected this way play a video you know the content of and then run the auto channel scan again on the 101 to pick up the VCR signal coming in through the aerial.

Not Scart signal quality but easy and records fine (provided you have got macro-vision disabled on the video or the tape is not macro-vision protected)

Hack wanted for the Compacks 101 recorder

Just bought one of these nifty machines from wollies for £129 after reading some of the forums I managed to get it set up and connected to TV/Video/Sky/second DVD player etc so thanks for all the great inpu, it really helped.

Now, does anyone have a multi-region hack for this recorder yet or is it to new yet?

Also does anyone know of a multi-region hack for the Acoustic Solution TS118A?

Thanks

Ken

RE: Goodmans GDVD66

I have tried the Hack posted for the GDV-66 which was based on the GDV-68 with no success. Most of the hacks seem to rely on the tray being ejected first. The GDV-66 has not got a loading tray!

Does anyone know a working region or multi-region hack for this player?

Thanks
