Compacks Dvd Recorder - Vcr Problem

Noodlesluke (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 30th July 2004, 15:20

I am going crazy as i have just bought a new compacks dvd 101 from woolworths today and have spent ages trying to set it up.

My main use of this dvd recorder will be recording old home movies from my vcr.
But the problem is i can`t find the vcr channel and when i press input it won`t come up on av 1, av 2, or av 3? Can someone help please!

Here is the layout of my setup.

Tv connected to Dvd Recorder via Scart
Vcr connected to Dvd Recorder via Scart
Dvd Recorder connecto to Tv via Scart

But i think the problem is that, becuase my dvd recorder only has one scart socket, i am using an adapter in it which lets you put in two scart sockets. Is this the problem?

Thanks!

PLEASE HELP!! Its Drving Me Bonkers

The scart on the back of your DVD recorder is output (playback) only. :/
It is not able to accept an incoming signal.
That is your problem, and is a major failing on that machine in my opinion.
You`ll have to buy a scart to 3-phono lead.
The scart end goes into your vcr,and the 3-phono plugs go into the back of the Compacks.

I don`t know which leads,if any,you got free with the thing.
If you got a 3-phono to 3-phono you could look at the back of your VCR,see if it has phono-out sockets and connect it to the phono-in sockets on your DVD recorder.
Bit of a stab in the dark I`m afraid,as I always connect by scarts.

I had exacly the same problem. You do get a 3-phono to 3-phono connector with the 101 so you could look at the back of your VCR,see if it has phono-out sockets and connect it to the phono-in sockets on your DVD recorder. Or get a scart plug with phono connectors on the back of it which cost only a couple of quid and it works fine on AV1.

I found the easiest and cheapest (it is not the best for quality) way to connect the VCR to the 101 was using the aerial out from the vcr connected to the aerial in on the 101 and then the scart on the 101 to the TV. To tune the VCR in to the 101 connected this way play a video you know the content of and then run the auto channel scan again on the 101 to pick up the VCR signal coming in through the aerial.

Not Scart signal quality but easy and records fine (provided you have got macro-vision disabled on the video or the tape is not macro-vision protected)

Hi Noodlesluke

I had exactly the same problem but have it sorted now.

Connect your 101 to your TV Via Scart.
Connect your VCR to your compack 101 via Scart to 3 Phono Lead (Tesco 71p) (this is the scart to yellow, red and white) - I found the three sockets at the front under the flap useful. You can then press play on your vcr and it will pick up the signal on one of the AV channels - I had interferance from TV on one channel so switched the plugs to the front and it worked ok then.

Hope this helps.
