RE: HD DVD`s BOGOF

http://bluray.liesinc.net/ has a really nice alphabetical table of Region A (US Discs) and Region B (European) and the regional status of each title (they even colour coded the Region Locked titles in red so they stand out!). A good place to double check if that American disc you`ve seen is a real bargain or an expensive mistake for your Euro Blu-ray player :)

House M.D. S1 & S2 - £10 each @ HMV

These are the only bargains that jumped out at me in HMV`s sale. £9.99 a pop and free shipping to boot. Makes up in some ways for the £135 they wanted for the Sex & The City boxset everyone else is selling for about £45 :D

RE: Free Sky+ with TVs at Currys

Looking at a few other forums, its very hit and miss over whether they`ll discount or not. Some people are reporting that Currys have flogged it to them at £29 + £30 installation when they haven`t bothered buying a TV at all.

Personally, I went into the Redditch Currys to buy a 19" Samsung for my Mum and they wouldn`t budge on the £300 price tag of the TV or the price of the Sky+.

The only "deal" they would do was £30 off the TV if i took 5 year insurance on the telly costing about a fiver a month :D Apparently they "wouldn`t be making any profit on the TV if they lowered the price, its suppossed to be £350 but we have £50 off it at the moment" .I decided to take my business elsewhere to that other big buyer of TV`s we all know and love as amazon. Their price? £250 delivered. Slightly cheaper than the £350 original price and the £300 sale price currys charge

RE: CE3K - Blu-Ray for £10 at Zavvi!

Sounds like you bagged yourself a bargain in the store, its £25 online at virginmegastore!
If it was just a local misprice i started having a surf around, it was marked up at £13 online @ hmv, though play.com, hmv and virginmegastore all have a 3 for 2 offer on a wide range of blu-rays and HD-DVD`s.

Virgin seem to be cheaper on some titles, but on the whole hmv and play seem to be decently priced for lots of discs, some titles £18, some £14. I`d be splashing out now if i knew i would get my @rse kicked by the missus! I bough a nice revolving rack for all my CD`s and DVD`s, filled it, bought another one and filled that too.. would be a bit obvious i`ve been sneaking discs into the house if i suddenly needed a third rack for more discs :D

RE: Laurel and Hardy collection (21 discs) £50

I was just looking for another boxset on ebay. The guy said "Check my feedback". I was surprised to see SIX copies of this Laurel & Hardy boxset in his history. They were all "Unwanted Gift - Still sealed" :D

They`ve been punting them on at £80 or £85 a time, so far the dude has made £200+ pure profit!! I guess he just goes in, buys a few, will take them back sealed if he can`t shift them on ebay. Nice way to make easy money

RE: The X Files The Complete DVD Collector`s Edition £51.97 Be Quick!

Details on Amazon refunds are listed here:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=334774

Heres the direct link to amazon without instructions:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/contact-us/returns-and-refunds.html?tag=myrev09-21

Worked well for me a few months ago, got about £12 back on 3 DVD`s i`d bought. Wish i`d spotted this thread earlier though, £52 for a nice box set would have been too good to refuse even though i have already got the individual boxsets from a few years ago..

RE: XBOX 360 - Sega Rally - Tesco - £23.47

Nice spot :) Sneaked this into the shopping trolley yesterday, now i`ve just got to find something for the missus to do other than watch endless re-reuns of Project Runway so I can have some quality time with the 360 and the LCD ;)

RE: New Harry Potter Book - £5 including delivery or Tesco in store (if spend over £50)

Yeah, the compensation for delay doesn`t seem to be widely known about. I found out about it a long time after i could have claimed for 11 items that Royal mail delivered in a bundle along with a "Sorry its late" card. i think they lost a sack of mail at the sorting centre as the post was all franked within 2 the space of 2 days.

For the record, Royal Mail say on their website "Has your mail item arrived five or more working days after it was posted?
If so, your mail is classified as 'delayed', and we'll give you compensation of 12 First Class stamps. If you provide additional evidence of delay and your claim for compensation is accepted, you will be sent a cheque for £5, or for £10 if your item has suffered substantial delay (i.e. was delivered more than eleven working days after the day of posting`) and you provide additional evidence or proof of delay.
"

RE: STAR TREK 1 - 10 BOX SET £48.97

Hmmmm, now the Alias boxset has me tempted!! Are they just the normal retail boxsets inside an "exclusive" amazon case? Not so fussed about the outer case but wondered if i`ll be able to buy S5 on its own and it not look out of place!

cheers

RE: Panic room (3 disc) for £3.97

"Re: Your Tesco Jersey order placed on Wednesday 19 April 2006
We are pleased to inform you that your order has now been dispatched"

2 week wait wasn`t so bad, at least they have honoured the order, a lot of retailers just say its unavailble and cancel on you. Now we just have to wait and see what arrives!

RE: SVP Discount Code 25th - 27th November

It was a bad cut & paste for some weird reason. £3 + VAT discount was what the email said, so about about £3.52 would be removed off the bill. Not quite up there with free shipping, but heading in the right direction and better than a kick in the teeth if you were going to place and order anyway :)

RE: Got my code...

I got the confirmation email on "16 November 2005 09:12:07"
I mailed them at the address noted on the bottom as it said they`d be sending the vouchers within 7 days but nothing hit my hotmail junk folder or inbox in that time.
Anyone with a hotmail account receive theirs? Nobody I`ve spoken to who used hotmail received one. I would have used my blueyonder account, but the application page refused to accept it saying that the email address wasn`t valid >:(

SVP Discount Code 25th - 27th November

Enter the coupon code stocking into our website during the checkout and you will get a £3+VAT discount on selected items.

RE: Cheap Simpsons Boxsets

This is the normal one http://www.sainsburysentertainyou.co.uk/mall/sainsburys/main.cfm?productid=2905201022&pty=12651&sti=23729

but the fancy Homer Head shaped case is only £25.99 http://www.sainsburysentertainyou.co.uk/mall/sainsburys/main.cfm?productid=2905201000&pty=10867&sti=23729

add that to the £5 for spending over £15 - listed on forum here - http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=223&Thread=493461&Type=1 (It seems to still be valid) and you`ve got it for £20.99. Bargain enough?

By the way, Seasons 1 to 4 are £13.99 at blahdvd if anyone else if looking for the early ones. can`t find a really decent price on season 5, amazon seem to be the cheapest for that..

RE: 10 Pack of Panasonic 4.7 GB 3 x DVD RAM £16.99

Yup, seems a pretty good deal to me. I`ll have to see if they`ve got any near here as I was in Currys on Saturday but only spotted a 5 pack for £12.99. 10 for 17 quid is the best price i`ve seen since Argos were doing the buy one get one free a few months back. I`d got pretty low so ended up ordering some Panasonic RAMs in caddies from SVP on monday anyway, so I`ve got a few to be going on with for now ;)

cheers for the heads up

RE: Six Feet Under DVD Boxsets 1 - 3 - £17.99 each

yes, but only just... it was a narrow escape, but I still say it was my right of way :p

RE: Discounted delivery at SVP

>:(
Placed my first order for about 2 months with them at 11am this morning, then this turned up in my mail just after 3!! I`d been holding out for a bargain from them but gave in (dangerously low levels of DVD`s.. down to about 20 :D )

Six Feet Under DVD Boxsets 1 - 3 - £17.99 each

Was just looking out for a cheap Season 4 Boxset as I`d finally got round to buying the first 3 on DVD from WH Smiths for £25 each and spotted that Choices Direct are flogging them at £17.99 from next week. Looks like they`ve got a few other things goinf fairly cheap at the moment. Six Feet Under sets were linked off the second page of this link. Too late to save me a few bob, but maybe not for someone else

http://www.choicesdirect.com/SpecialOffers/SpecialOffersMain.asp

Nuts!!, missed the earlier post, that`ll teach me to scan the threads haphazardly

feel free to delete this one. i won`t take it personally <sniff>

RE: Digital Satellite Dish & Receiver Set - £59.99 at Lidl from Thurs.

"Does anyone know if you can get the premiership football on these via norwegian channels or other ?? "

If this unit is the SL65 that has been mentioned in previous posts then the description on their website implies that no, you won`t be able to use it to receive the footy broadcast from Norway. The description shows it as a "Free to Air" reciever, which means it does not have a CAM (Conditional Access Module) slot, so theres nowhere for you to put the required decryption CAM and subscription card.

Also, the dish size isn`t huge, It may struggle to pull Thor in (the satellite the norweigian footy is broadcast via). If you wanted to see whats available free to air and the footprint of reception with a guide to dish size, check out www.lyngsat.com
Its got details of pretty much all satellites worldwide and the channels that are broadcast on them

RE: Dead Like Me complete 2nd season-£12.92 approx on DVD Import

It would be nice, but don`t hold your breath! I was quite surprised when DLM S1 came out over here as I hadn`t seen any news about it at all. I`ve just looked up the release dates for the US & UK versions of S1. Scarily the UK release was issued 1 day shy of 53 weeks after the American version, and that day is only cos the US new release date is a tuesday whereas we`re a monday. If the delay in releasing Season 2 is similar to that of Season 1 then you could be in for a long wait

If you`re curious, my S1 DVD Boxset looks identical to the UK version from what I`ve seen and the US S2 boxset looks really nice too (it doesn`t have the fancy plastic slip case season 1 did though)

RE: House of Flying Daggers £5.97 at Amazon

If you don`t want anything else from amazon its £5.99 at both blahdvd.com and sainsburysentertainyou.co.uk, both offer free shipping on all dvds :)

RE: XBox Bargins every hour this Sunday - It`s Started....

Cheers for the update, I`d forgotten about it overnight!
I grabbed a copy of Blinx 2 for £6.49 (in P&P), was pleasantly surprised to see the offers being left up from previous hours too.

Forza sold out in a fairly impressive 6 minutes at 9am...

RE: DVDSOON voucher

Check any pre-orders you might have placed carefully before cancelling. I pre-ordered Dead Like Me Season 2 at $25, its gone up $10 since then (and its still a pre-order).
A pain cos I wanted to order another copy for my sisters birthday pressie. I guess I might just order it from playusa.com instead

RE: TOSHIBA Stasia 27WL55 16:9 27"

£762 is for the 27WL56P, which by the looks of it is the slightly newer more impressive super dooper version. the 27WL55 had dvi (doesn`t say if its hdcp compatible). The 27WL56 has HDMI instead of DVI and also has some other funky stuff like a faroudja deinterlacer (useful for pulling tv pictures back into a "film" format for better display results.

The newer model has more bells and whistles, should be sky hi-def compatible from the looks of the specifications and maybe has a better picture, it definitely has more processing options, so is most likely the latest greatest addition to the range. Shame they sacrificed a scart on the newer model though, 3 on a mid/high end telly is a must regardless of whether theres a digital video connection

RE: Benq 19 inch TFT 199.99

Nice one! I`d been thinking about getting a 19" with DVI and this fitted the bill nicely. I had a dead pixel on mine (a nice green one smack bang dead centre of the screen - lovely on movies!!) but Staples were really good, popped it on one of their display pc`s, I showed them the pixel and they swapped it out for a new screen. The guy who served me even let me check out the replacement before I drove home (didn`t fancy another 10 mile trip if this one had one too!)
I might even be nice to my sister and give her my old Philips 17" now...

RE: [GC] Donkey Konga includes bongos.

They`re still £15 at amazon. just order something else for a few quid to qualify for the free shipping and get a little bit more for your cash :)

RE: SVP £3 shipping discount

I think chewbacca was last weeks code in honour of Revenge of the Syth being released last thursday so its probably expired by now. The liverpoolfc code (valid until end of monday) can probably be used in combination with the discount economy shipping mentioned on their homepage up until midnight tonight, meaning you`ll get practically free post and packing on orders over £30 if you order today :)

RE: 32" HD Ready LCD Television - 749.99

Yeah, I wouldn`t worry about the 435XDE not meeting the mark, its got excellent reviews from pretty much everyone, its got HDMI with HDCP, so its ticked the box on the hi-def requirements as far as Sky are concerned. Digital Terrestrial Tuner, scarts galore and a damn nice picture to boot... DVD`s look amazing on them

I`ve been drooling over one for a while now, maybe when I`ve finished the decorating and carpets... of course by then I`m sure there will be something bigger and better round the corner, but theres always something bigger and better round the corner, you have to buy this stuff sometimes and I`d say you`ve picked one of the top 3 tellies on the market at the moment.

RE: 42 Plasma Best Deal?

I`d personally hold off full stop for the moment, every major manufacturer seems to be bringing out new models with better picture technology. Sony are suppossed to be bringing out a new model that has HDMI and or DVI (with the all important HDCP that Sky said was essential for some of its propsed services)

A lot of the LCD manufacturers have startedtalking about improved response times with LCD, getting responses down to 8ms or so, making the smearing issue more or less a thing of the past, so LCD is becoming a viable alternative to PLasma in terms of picture quality, though the cost still seems slightly higher so I guess they still have a higher ratio of screens being rejected at quality control

If you`ve got 3 grand burning a whole in your pocket, consider the Pioneer 435XDE, if you`ve got less than that, go buy yourself a copy of What Plasma & LCD, read it from front to back and make sure you don`t end up spending a grand or so on something thats not upto the job in a years time that you really regret buying

RE: [GC] Console & donkey konga bundle with the bongos for £59.99!

They`re only £49.99 now!! Very tempted at this price, kinda wished I hadn`t spent £20 on Donkey Konga with the bongos for my nephew last week

I was comparing the offers around and gamestation are doing Donkey Konga Bundle, with an unofficial controller, an official Wavebird wireless controller, memory card and a game (stuff like Simpsons Hit & Run, Fifa 2004, Matrix... stuff you can pick up for a tenner at the worst) for £89.99. Seems pretty good value if you really want or need 3 controllers a memory card and a couple of games
