Page 1 of Video Editing Software - Superimpose Captions / Graphics

Could someone recommend me some easy to use video editing software? A free one or even one you have to pay for is fine.

All I`m looking to do it break up 1 large VOB file into several small sections. If you can superimpose graphics over the video too that would be great also.

id use Sony Vegas as thats the only software I really use ,so it would split the vob file and text or anything effects wise can be added with ease
