X-MEN FOR £12!!!!!

at futureent.com you can get x-men for 12 quid. bloody bargain if you ask me...

RE: more cheap R1 discs

theyre all original discs. and yes theyre based in the uk so no customs charges etc. i think thyre a good alternative to play247

RE: getting stung by customs?

my brother and my friend have both ordered off www.dvdexpress.com and both been stung by customs. they both got charged around 15 pounds for importing 1 disc. apparently www.dvdboxoffice.com are better as they package the discs in `customs-friendly` parcels so you dont get collered.

RE: Terminator 2 on region2

apparently the R2 version is identical to the R1

RE: Lethal W 4 - double sided disc, why so cheap second hand ?

no its no a flipper. the whole films on one side and loads of extras on the other. its a bloody good disc actually (although the R2 version has been cut by 1.30 mins) and the only reason i thinks its so cheap is down to the fact that it was one of the very first R2 discs to come out.

DVD TECHNOLOGY - STUPID?????

now dont get me wrong i love everything to do with dvd and am glad we finally have a decent format to watch films. however what i do find quite incredible is the problem with certain discs not working on certain players. surely some sort of standard shouldve been set by now so that all machines made will play all discs made (i dont necessarily mean R1 discs on R2 players). i originally had an alba 103 player (w***) but got so sick and tired of worrying whether my latest purchase would in fact play on my machine. imagine if you bought a video cassette and it didnt work on your vcr, or if the latest playstation game didnt work and you had to upgrade your PS. when will all this end? are people who cant afford expensive dvd players going to be screwed all the time just because manufacturers are after a quick-buck by releasing under-specked machines. im surprised someone like watchdog hasnt picked up on more about this..........

RE: ALBA DVD103 - Problems with `GO` dvd - any clues?

listen mate. your player is crap. i used to have one bought sold it within two months of purchase. along with average picture and audio quality it also has problems playing many discs. firstly Go doesnt work full stop! then also other R2 discs like Matrix and x-files season 1 theyre are problems with.then some R1 discs dont work either. T2: ultimate edit wont play the special versions of the film half way in. finally if any dics are slighlty scratched or dirty it goes haywire..... basically the more technically advanced the discs are the more unlikely the alba 103 can handle it!

RE: region 1 on pal tv

your tv needs to be able to accept a 60hz signal or R1 discs will play in black and white. check your instructions maybe...

RE: Which player will play X-Men R1 without problems.

ive got a philips 711 fully modified which plays it fine. in fact it plays all discs fine including the RCE affected patriot disc.

RE: Terminator 2 Problems on my Alba 103!

dont mean to be funny but your machine is crap! i used to own one but quickly got rid after i realised what a bollock id made thinking a cheap dvd player would be good. i had EXACTLY the same probs with T2 and also probs with the matrix, Go! and x-files season 1 ( the dark images appear green). in the end i was fed up of buying a disc and praying the damn thing would work so bought a new player. its worth investing a bit more money for a better player for what its worth.....

RE: Best Excuse for Alba-Asda Return

alba is s***. dont get the wharfdale either as gladiator doesnt work on it. i recommend the philips 711 fully modified, three discs for 230 quid

RGB scart question

ive got a standard RGB lead but was wondering if i got a scart plug and connected the lead to my tv would it then give me RGB scart? im currently using a gold tipped s-video lead so would it give me a better picture using the RGB scart???

RE: the answer to the alba 103 region changeing

i had an alba 103 and sold it because its absolute s***e!!! picture quality is grainy and it cant handle movies which are mostly dark - its goes a snot green colour! by the way it is multi region out of the box and it wont damage it putting another region disc in it. the reason it wont play certain discs is beacause its crap and wont play some R2 discs never mind R1. i know for a fact that R2 Go! doesnt work as doent the R1 T2: ultimate edition. anyway sell it and but something half decent instead.....

Phillips 711 - is it any good????

i can get this player for 230 quid chipped with three discs. is it good value or would you look else where??? what about the sony 335/6 for 300 already chipped??? someoene PLEASE help.....

SLEDGEHAMMERS FOR SALE......

im currently selling sledgehammers for all you alba 103 owners so you can put yourself and your players out of misery.....

sony/ panasonic/ phillips?????

got a few prices on some multi region players and was just wondering what anyone thought. seen the sony 335 for 280 pounds, panansonic RV20 for 249 pounds and two phillips ones - 751 for 249 quid and 711 for 199...

RE: advice on mid-range players

can anyone shed any light as where to buy theses players???

RE: The Ironduke Predicts!

can anyone guide me as to where to buy players????? can anyone recommend phillips???

advice on mid-range players

after having managed to flog my s***ty alba103 player for more or less the same price to which i bought it (phew!), im now after mid-priced player, something in the region on 250 quid. i can get a phillips one (dont know the model though) already chipped with 2 free discs for 230, but wanted a little advice from anyone who has one in this range.

DO NOT BUY THE ALBA 103 DVD PLAYER!!!!!!

it is a very average machine with bad picture quality and doesnt play all discs. on dark images the machine pixelates green and the sound isnt the best ive heard. RCE affected discs dont work and some other R1 discs ie, T2: ultimate edit dont work properly. there are also problems of R2 discs not working too such as Go! and colombia/ tri-star films, as well as freezing on layer changes on certain dual layered discs. to be honest its worth paying a bit extra for a decent player. dont be sucked in by certain dvd publications and the cheap price tag..........

RE: Gladiator R1 vs R2

i assure u both versions r EXACTLY the same!!!

RE: Final Destination

just got the R1 version today, which incidentally is better than the R2 version as it has commentarys and an alternate ending. its a brilliant disc overall and the `death clock` which tells you when you will die is one of the coolest and most bizarre features ive ever seen on a dvd...

RE: Problems with the patriot on the alba dvd103 player.

ive also got an alba 103 an up until recently havent had any problems. i have many R1 discs, but one which didnt work was T2: ultimate edition. i think it doesnt work due to the fact that its probably the most technically accomplished disc available. the R2 one should be fine though! RCe is basically a code put onto the disc to prevent it being used by people outside of the designated region. there was initially a big fuss over it after warner bros issued a statment claiming they were going to use it all the time. however now the dust has settled it seems that theyll hardly use it at all. apparently the patriot is the only disc so far which has used it. just your luck eh?! so i wouldnt worry too much about it. all my r2 discs work (even the matrix) and i reckon its only gonna be the really advanced R1 tiltes that we may have a problem ie, T2. hope that clears it up a bit.

RE: where to buy rigion 1

play247.com are bloody fantastic!!!

RE: WARNING!!!!! alba 103

i got my alba 103 from toys r us for 130 quid. incidentally T2 is the ONLY disc ive had problems with. others eg, matrix, fight club work fine. to be honest i think T2 will just be more of a one off.

WARNING!!!!! alba 103

just a quick warning to all those with an alba 103. if youre thinking of buying the region 1 T2: ultimate edit, then dont bother as it doesnt work properly. the theatrical version of the film is fine, however the special edition cuts out half way through the film. the good news though (if you can call it good news) is that the pal one comes out in january and WILL will be exactly the same as the US one and WILL work properly.....

RE: Terminator 2: ultimate edit

SUPERB!!! cheers mate, thats great. out of interest just what are the differences in the ultimate version????

RE: out of sight

cheers mate, ill give it a go

out of sight

ive just bought the pal version of out of sight and it appears to have some of the extras advertised on the back of the box missing eg, the trailer. are they really missing or is it just me going out of my mind. pls someone clear this up for me...

Terminator 2: ultimate edit

ive just bought T2 the ultimate edit which has three versions of the film on it. i know that two are already available and the third is found by putting in a code or something. so could someone please tell me how to do it???
