Having had no previous problems with this dvd player playing all the region one titles i have bought its seems to have come a cropper with this disc?
why,it didnt need chipping or a hack it was already multiregion when i bought ,for a bargain £137.00 from argus.Any suggestions,or comments would welcome .A region 1 disc of The skulls works fine, which was bought at the same time as the patriot disc?
WHATS RCE?

ive also got an alba 103 an up until recently havent had any problems. i have many R1 discs, but one which didnt work was T2: ultimate edition. i think it doesnt work due to the fact that its probably the most technically accomplished disc available. the R2 one should be fine though! RCe is basically a code put onto the disc to prevent it being used by people outside of the designated region. there was initially a big fuss over it after warner bros issued a statment claiming they were going to use it all the time. however now the dust has settled it seems that theyll hardly use it at all. apparently the patriot is the only disc so far which has used it. just your luck eh?! so i wouldnt worry too much about it. all my r2 discs work (even the matrix) and i reckon its only gonna be the really advanced R1 tiltes that we may have a problem ie, T2. hope that clears it up a bit.

Dream on, Gerbil. Suggest you check the DVD Times Hardware Forum, matey.

Unfortunately, seems the Alba 103 has a prob playing back the tricky stuff. Roger (a recent visitor here) has decided nuff is nuff and is taking the player back.

Judging by the crap customer service he`s received thus far I`d recommend you do the same.

The future`s bright, but it ain`t Alba, I`m afraid...

Has anyone tried playing The Patriot or The Perfect Storm on a Pro Line 1000? If so did it work?

Just three words of advice to give here TAKE IT BACK. I made the same mistake of Buying the Bush version which is identical. Yuor lucky that you got it from Argos they`ll give you your money back no questions. Then invest another £30 0r £50 and buy somehting decent. Steve

I`m not sure but this might work ...

On loading the disk and getting the warning screen

Try pressing

stop/play mode/ * wait a few secs */play

or

stop/play mode/ * wait a few secs */ *enter a chapter number, e.g. 1 or 2 or >

Let me know if this works..

I would point out that many of the other budget contenders also have problems with `tricky` discs ie Wharfedale 750 - gladiator disc 2 for instance. Also the Samsung 709, Shinco and Mico players have problems with different discs.
Point is, if the Alba has been caught out by RCE then thats not their fault since it occured after the firmware was designed.
For £140 I think it is a decent buy for the money. If it has LOTS of problems with regions 2 discs I will certainly seek a refund but for now I have encountered NO problems with any discs region 1 or 2.
For now I am quite happy with this player - for the money it dumps on my VCR which was 3 times the price of the alba.
PS Does anyone with both the Patriot/Alba want to try the workaround posted above - don`t have this disc i`m afraid. Ta!

k
RCE is ascript on the disk wich asks the player if it`s region 1 then it asks the player if it`s region 2 if it then says yes it tells the player to fu(k off i ain`t playing on you :-) just some coding that they put on disks that stops disks from playing on multiregion players which yours is and as far as i know there ain`t a way round it for this player yet, as the multiregion can`t be switched off on the player.

RCE is designed to target codefree players (ie those set to R0 or ALL regions) as these players bypass CSS and so are in violation of the license agreement made between the manufacturer and dvd forum The Alba is one of these players.

I too have a small problem with the Alba DVD103. The problem I have is, certain disc (scream3, for example) has quite a bad "lip sync" problem. The result is that the audio dialogue is around half a second behind the visual (scream 3 looks like a badly dubbed spaghetti western movie!).

I dont think its the set up i have (all audio is going thought a surround sound amp via red and white audio leads).

Does anyone have a similar problem - or solution/advice?
