Page 1 of RGB scart question

ive got a standard RGB lead but was wondering if i got a scart plug and connected the lead to my tv would it then give me RGB scart? im currently using a gold tipped s-video lead so would it give me a better picture using the RGB scart???

If both your telly and DVD both support RGB SCART then you could connect the two successfully but if you are already using s-video, then I`m not sure that you will see much of an improvement:

SCART connctors come in two formats. One is S-video conpatible and the other is RGB. The 4-pin s-video lead that you have is not RGB, but carries two signals: Luminance and Chrominance.

I don`t know how the quality of the two formats compares, but I do know that s-video is frequently used in the professional video industry, and so I would expect the quality to be as good, it not better that the RGB.

It`s generally recognised that RGB is top dog (after component video) in terms of picture quality, rather than S-VID, when it comes to DVD.

Depends on yer telly - if it has an RGB capable socket then use that. As Andy says, I`ve never come across SCART sockets that are capable of both RGB and S-VID on a telly - maybe someone out there knows different.

RGB is recognised as the `purest` form of picture you can get, but only if your display unit can handle it. The signal is divided into (funnily enough) Red Green and Blue - brighter pictures and reduced interference.

S-VID will split the piccy into chrominance and luminance but won`t quite match RGB in terms of sharpness and image
