Which Laptop? £500ish

Hi,
I am after a laptop which will mainly be used for writing scripts. I am looking to spend about £500, and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I am currently looking at the Medion Sim2000 which is really small so great portability, I`m not sure if it will be comfortable to type on for long periods, as there isnt much space to rest your hands, so if anyone has one of those, what do you think?

Sony GX210s DVD recorder?

I know its only just out, but has anyone got one of these or read a review of one yet, if so whats it like? And the most important thing, has anyone seen any news of if the player can be hacked to be multiregion?

Well i have just contacted Simply Computers or Misco or whatever they have just changed their name to for a refund, as the player now skips its way through almost every dvd i own, it freezes for about 10-15 seconds every couple of minutes. The faint white lines that SuperPP had trouble with are present, and there is a huge(about an inch thick) purple line across the top of the picture, which is only present in RGB mode.

So I can safely say this dvd player is pathetic, and i wouldnt recommend an ellion dvd player to anyone.

Fixing a coaxial cable help?

Hi,
the BNC connector has come off my coaxial cable, and I need to either rewire the BNC male connector, or attach a new phono adaptor to the end. Now I have cut the coaxial cable and a phono cable, and connected the outter wires together and the inner wire together quickly, but there is not image coming through. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or if they have any tips?

back at last.

Finally got mine back today, after the no show on Tuesday, i phoned them up, and they said we never said that. It seems to be going good so far, its played the most problematic dvds fine so far, and as i said the picture is superb when it does work.

Outter box is slightly damaged, its cheap cardboard so frayed corners and some creases, that sort of thing, but DVDs are in proper amaray style cases inside and they are fine.

I ordered it from www.simply.co.uk
It was 169 with next day delivery. It came with a warranty certificate in the box, and i phoned the tech support line on that which is a company called goodies enterprise, which i think must be the UK suppliers. They sent a courier to pick it up, and its coming back this coming tuesday again via courier, so it will have been away a week. Hopefully it will work properly this time. I know some places state that you have to pay to send the faulty items back, but believe me if that had have been the case i wouldnt have paid it, and they would have sent someone to pick it up, or there would have been hell to pay. Fortunately Goodies Enterprise seem a fairly good company, and it is very good customer service, although the music when they put you on hold, damn, its like a freaking musical jewellary box.

They picked mine up yesterday, and should be back in a few days. So fingers crossed it will work when it gets back.

Well i bought one, and continuing my lifelong streak of buying broken stuff, i got a faulty one! Bloody thing wont load half my dvds at all, and the rest get stuck on the menus and the player has to be switched off at the mains to be able to do anything else. >:( :(

I emailed ellion, no response has yet, i will phone up and have a go after the weekend. And if i have no luck there i will get in touch with simply and demand a refund.

RikD whats the playback of pre-recorded DVDS like? I want to get a recorder but would have to get rid of my player to make room. I have a Mico Classica 20 so whats the playback like compared to that if you know?

its not really about the twist so much. The idea of the film is for people to see the twist coming, and dwell on how they feel about doing it. Its supposed to be a post 9/11 social commentary type thing.

OK yeah supposedly it is real, but to say a film about EVP is unbelievable, and use The Exorcist as an example of a realistic film, well they exist in reality on pretty much the same terms, apparently they do exist, but about 90% if not more will not come across them. I did think White Noise sucked by the way, im not trying to argue its case.

There OK, but in the end they might as well just be available as normal extras.

DTS, kick ass picture, commentary, and a decent making of.

Is packaging and a free gift important?
Packaging is immensely important. I re-brought Reservoir Dogs because of the SE packaging. For truely amazing Graphic Design look at some of Korea`s latest dvd releases (Silmido, Arahan, Taegukgi and R-Point) where the packaging stops being merely a box, and literally becomes a work of art.

Would you evre re-buy a title for the Special edition Version?
Yes, but only if i really like the film. However what i strongly disagree with is releasing 2 versions of the film at the same time, namely the Directors Cut and the Theatrical version. Eg Dawn of the Dead (2004). It should be released as a seamless branching version, or if the changes are too extensive to do this, then as a 3 disc set.

TOSLINK Optical Cable Switch Splitter thing?

Right, my amp only has one TOSLINK in and i now have 3 things i want to have connected, X-Box, PS2 and of course DVD player. Now i want something like a scart switcher but for digital optical cables, so does anyone have any recomendations for a product? Or does anyone have this one, and can tell me if its any good.

CD Profiler?

Hey does anyone know of a freeware program in a similar vein to DVD Profiler, but for CDs. Perhaps for vinyl singles as well?

Yeah you wont need a fliptop, you just need to take off the front of the disk tray. Really easy to do and comes with full instructions. Worked with everything i have ever tried (back ups, EA Imports) except for James Bond Everything or Nothing.
