RE: Canon printer scanner copier MP210..Less than £15
Received my cheque yesterday.
The Third Man
HMV are selling the 2 disc version in store for £6.00 (about £5.00 online I think). Does anyone know if this is the same transfer as the single disc Region 2 version? DVDCompare does not list the 2 disc Region 2 version, although there are clearly some better versions out there (the Region 1 Criterion version, and I think a German Version). Cheers.
RE: Sky+ Question
You can run a Sky+ box off one cable. Just means you can only use one of the channels, so you can only record the channel you are actually watching.
Don`t know if it will work OK without a telephone connection - check the contract!
RE: Shinco portable DVD repairs ?
After very occasional use over the last 9 months, it now doesn`t work at all. The repair was only guaranteed for 3 months so Allcam aren`t interested in it and will only offer free postage on a new machine. Bit fed up about it. I think I`m in the market for a new portable.
RE: Samsung WS32Z428D8 - 32" Widescreen Slimfit CRT TV - With Freeview £224.98
I`m quite attracted by the idea of a slim CRT TV, and this is a good price. However I`ve had difficulty in finding out much information on this set. Does anyone have one, or something similar, and what are they like?
I`m not planning on going doen the HD route, at least not for a while yet, so something that handles Sky and ordinary DVD would be fine. Would it handle an upscaled DVD picture?
RE: AT LAST....ITS ME....BILKO!!!!
Great - excellent spot. Police Squad is the same price!
RE: One for all scart control box was £40 now £15 (or less)
Another possibility is this One for All from Amazon
It`s the cheaper simpler version of the Maplins model - no automatic switching, but fully RGB enabled.
The Maplins one allows you to switch any of the inputs to a recording channel but does not allow you to record via RGB, which I think is a problem if you want to record to DVD recorder. You have to have the recorder in line with the digital source to get an RGB recording.
RE: Cheap xbox games.
Is there a decent F1 racing game for the Xbox?
RE: Cheap xbox games.
I`m afraid I`ve been going mad buying cheap games after acquiring an Xbox from Argos. I managed to get hold of a Mad Catz Steering Wheel from Currys Digital for about £13.00, and several cheap games at Blockbuster and Game.
Xbox stuff seems to be disappearing fast though, so there are a few good bargains around!
RE: X Box with four games for under £50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the risk of sounding completely stupid, can someone explain what this soft modding is all about. What does it enable you to do that you can`t otherwise? As someone who is easily persuaded to tinker with anything electrical (often causing irreperable damage) I`m intrigued to know what oppoertunities there may be!
RE: X Box with four games for under £50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Picked up mine today. Thanks to the OP. Great spot, cheers.
RE: Buying a house - How long should it take??
Of course the answer is that things will happen at the speed of the slowest link. That could be anything. Often it`s the formal mortgage offer which may itself depend on a positive survey.
You could be waiting a little while on searches - depends on the Local Authority.
In all likelihood, if you`re getting a mortgage, your solicitor will also be acting for the mortgage company, and they have a duty to ensure that the mortgagee obtains a good security for the loan.
I can`t think there`s a single conveyancing solicitor out there who charges for this work on a time basis - it`s nearly always a fixed fee. If you`re comparing prices, make sure you know what`s included. If you go for the cheapest, the chances are you will get what you pay for. If you expect a decent professional job, you should be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for it. Probably too late, but try to get recommendations - don`t rely on Yellow Pages.
Don`t forget Stamp Duty Land Tax if you`re paying over £125,000. It`s horribly expensive!
And going back to my first point - clearly you won`t be moving in until the existing owners are prepared to move out.
RE: Sherlock Holmes - The Complete Collection (Seven Discs) £17.99
The collection being sold by HMV is entitled "The Complete Collection" but the photo looks like the The Definitive Collection and it appears to be an Optimum release.
RE: Captain Scarlet Complete Boxset £14.99
What a great spot. Another HMV order on top of the Bond box set. Hope my wife doesn`t read this forum!
RE: HMV 20% off this Friday and Saturday (20/21 Oct 2006) online only
Yippee
Got This Life Series 1 & 2 for £23.99. Sorry to see though it`s a one shot offer. I`ll have to use another e-mail address presumably if I want to order more.
Thanks OP.
Ken Burns The West/American Civil War
Saw this in a newspaper today, £40 for both at www.ddhe.co.uk. If you use the code ADV651 you will get free delivery.
These are both excellent. The cheapest online price for either that I can find is about £27, so it`s a reasonable saving.
RE: dvds you want the most
Can`t believe Zeppelin (with Michael York) hasn`t been released yet. Love that film - mainly for nostalgia I suspect. If you`re tempted to buy the VCD off ebay - don`t! It`s complete rubbish.
Still waiting for some Jack Rosenthal stuff (Cold Enough for Snow for example).
Must be loads others!
I remember! That`s Love. Comedy sitcom with Jimmy Mulville in the 80`s, with Diana Hardcastle, Neil Pearson, Tony Slattery, Emma Thompson`s mother. Absolutely hilarious.

RE: Shinco portable DVD repairs ?
My 1720 finally packed up completely.
The extremely nice and helpful people at Allcam have repaired it for £50 + £7 P&P. I think it needed a new lens. The early 1720s were obviously defective.
So big thumbs up for Allcam - I didn`t even buy the original unit from them.
RE: Gilmour....oh dear!!
Did you see him on Jools Holland`s programme? I think the guy`s brilliant. He`s not a flashy player but his solos are so musical. How can you make five notes go so far?
It was also great to see Crosby and Nash not only singing great backing vocals but also really enjoying themselves, and in particular the guitar solos (could have done without Arnold Layne though!).
Panasonic DMRES10 - a couple of questions
Thinking about retiring my (trusty!) Philips. The Panny looks very good value (and I can still use my +R discs).
Could someone help me with some answers to questions.
1. I find the 2.5 hours recording on the Philips useful. The Panny recording modes go from 2 hours to 4 hours, but an I right that Flexible Recording enables you to record say a 2hrs 10min film without having to use the 4 hour mode?
2. Widescreen recording. The manual says it records to 4:3, but I think an earlier post said it just misses out the widescreen flag, but it will record widescreen OK, but you may have to set the TV manually to W/S. Correct?
3. Definitely RGB input? Also will it allow an RGB signal to pass through when in standby?
Thanks.
RE: Backing Up DVDs?
Looks like you only get 21 days free use - or is payment "voluntary"? Mind you if it works well it`s probably worth it.
RE: It The Clown
I saw this on late night TV and found it pretty scary. I got the video for the children to watch when they were about 14/16 years old. I gave it a big build up (really really scary) and they thought it was laughable. My credibility has never recovered! I still think it`s good, but the end is a bit pathetic.
Ken Burns American Civil War
I`d been looking to buy this excellent series, but the cheapest UK cost is about £35. However DVD Crave in Aus have this for about AUD $20 plus postage which works out at about AUD $32 (about £13.50). The discs themselves are Region 2 and 4.
Real afficionados may want to look for the Region 1 version which has additional extras and a 5:1 audio track (and better packaging).
RE: HMV Sale (cough)
Casino 2 disc in store for £5.99.
Philips DVDR75 - problem with +RWs
Had no problems with this until recently where I seem to have a problem with some Philips +RW discs I bought. I record onto the disc fine, but then it behaves like a finalised +R disc - I can`t edit anything. The menu screen loses the bar down the right hand side, and I can`t access any of the editing functions, or even delete the contents.
Never tried upgrading the firmware, so I might give that a go. Anyone else experienced a similar problem?
RE: Philips DVDR610
Any idea what difference/improvement it makes.
RE: Shinco portable DVD repairs ?
Mine has now got to the stage where it refuses to play the majority of discs, and I`m out of my warranty period unfortunately.
See this link. I followed the instructions to make an upgrade disc and it seems a lot better now. I gather though there may have been some problems with the lenses, so it may not solve the whole problem. Good luck.
RE: Shinco portable DVD repairs ?
May be worth persevering with a bit more. This happened to mine, but I tried a number of different discs and eventually it seemed to correct itself. Not very scientific I know!
RE: Godfather Trilogy (5 disk W/S boxset) - £12.99
Saw this in my local Sainsburys branch (Godalming) for £14.99.
RE: Best battle scenes
Kelly`s Heroes - When the tanks come out of the railway tunnel playing country and western music (to soothe their nerves!).
Battle of Britain
All Quiet on the Western Front (the original). Probably still one of the best depictions of trench warfare.
