RE: V21/Biscit/Any ISP Supplied by Netservices - Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!
I have a dialup line through V21. It used to cost me £6.99 a month for unlimited dialup - which I was happy with as I hardly dial in and when I do I don`t tend to download much. Since V21 moved to Biscit, this appears to have been reduced to £4.99 a month, which is great - except they charged me 3 times in the first month and I`ve never received a refund dispite ringing and emailing their accounts and customer services departments numerous times.
They don`t respond to emails and the queries I have made through their secure account web site have never been updated.
I was planning to upgrade to Broadband soon and until recently I was considering V21/Biscit as an option - but not anymore.

RE: So is Robbie doing Lily then?
Sorry to be a boring arse and stating the obvious, but Lily Allen did backing vocals on RW`s latest album
. . . not quite as appealing as the thought of Robbie Coltrane and Lily Savage thread though, sounds far more interesting
RE: Cat Repellant ... Any permanent suggestions for front garden??
Bought my brother some essence of Lion Poo pellets from an organic nursury once. The idea was the cats got freaked out, thought I`m not messing with that b45t4rd and kept away. It didn`t work and he swears there were more females cats visiting and sniffing around them. :/
RE: POLL: Which is more sophisticated: red or white wine?
Not sure whether it is more sophisticated or not, but I like both - prefer reds.
I never really understood where the red wine with red meat, and white wine with fish and white meat came from until I tried drinking a red wine with a white bait starter . . . after that the wine tasted like ditch water.
So in my opinion, whites go with anything, keep away from reds if you are eating strongly flavoured fish . . . unless looking sophisticated is more important to you, than enjoy your meal
RE: How do you get cat urine out of car seats?
Not much use for car seats, but . . .
we had a problem with a stray coming into the house and spraying all over the place. To make matters worse, our own cats then kept trying to cover it with their own smell. The missus picked up a leaflet from the `Cats Protection League` about spraying and it said that biological powder is the best thing to get rid of the smell. However, there is an oily deposit left behind which we can`t smell but other cats can and they will try to cover it up with their own. To get rid of the oily deposit you need to wipe it over with surgical spirits as well.
Like I said, not strictly relevant to your problem, but others may be interested ;)
RE: Neanderthals and Humans Lived Side by Side - New Scientist
That`s a point - these disabled drivers are paid far to much, the disable driver bays in our local supermarket is filled with BMW`s, Chelsea Tractors and Mercs. >:(
RE: Have I been a complete idjit
Checked the paperwork and hey presto I`m not an idjit and they have changed. Therefore sending my bills off now with a copy of the T & C`s that they provided with the order.
Thanks for the advice guys
Have I been a complete idjit
Back in April I went to ReestitMuttons website used one of his affiliation links to take out a `free` 12 month contract with `The Mobile Outlet`. I read the conditions and added reminders to my phone and marked down on a calendar when I needed to send back bills to get my cash backs cos I knew the terms and conditions are pretty stringent.
However, according to all my reminders this should have been months 6 and 12. But when I go to the terms and conditions page now it says they should be sent in months 4,7,9,11 and 12 if the total cashback is over £200 over a 12 month contract . . . which means I`m right up Sugar Creek without a paddle. >:(
Are there any other Mobile Outlet customers out there ? If so have I been stupid and this has always been the case, or have the T&C`s changed ?
Suppliers of chipped remotes and Firmware upgrades
Hi all
I have a Packard Bell EasyDVD EDR2001 :( and I can not find a remote hack (that works for it anywhere). There have been a couple of threads here in the last few months, but none of the suggestions have worked (but thanks for trying guys 8) ).
From past memories I believe that the only way to hack same makes of DVD players (eg Panys, Sony`s and Tosh`s etc) is either to use a CD with a firmware update or chipped remote controls supplied from 3rd Party company.
I`m hoping somewhere I`ll find one of these CD`s or remotes that can help with my machine . . . but what suppliers are there out there ? and which is the best to use ?
RE: LG-U890 on 3 for £4.99 for 12 months then £17.50 for 6 months (Loads of free calls and texts inc
Thanks marixon, SVP were out of stock so I got one from 7dayshop, cheers
RE: LG-U890 on 3 for £4.99 for 12 months then £17.50 for 6 months (Loads of free calls and texts inc
Not wanting to be a fly in the ointment, but me and the missus took out a cash back deal with a similar plan from 3 and an LG-U880 plus bluetooth headset - and have regretted it since. :(
On the plus side, over the year we have a contract for, with cash backs we are only end up really paying for stuff outside of free calls (which excludes 0800 and 0845 numbers) and downloads. 8)
On the downside, the battery dies in next to no time, the charger keeps dropping out so it doesn`t always charge up when you want to :/ .
The signal/reception is appalling and the interface is very unfriendly and not very flexible. To download music you need a T-Flash card (anyone know what that is ?) and trying to get the blue tooth to work took an age.
The package is cheap, but be aware of the limitations >:(
RE: MS Works Suite 2005 £9.99
Forgot to include another fantastic freebie - GIMP for all your photo and image editing needs . . . but note you`ll have to install GTK+ first, but as it is available from the same location its a doddle.
RE: MS Works Suite 2005 £9.99
Would I be pushing my luck by pointing out that Open Office 2.0
is free on Download, and if you needed a decent personal database Oracle 10 express edition is also a free download
RE: simpsons boxsets including seasons 6 and 7 £9.99 each
Just checked out seasons 1 and 2 and there is no discount
RE: HP EasyDVD EDR2001 DVD Recorder DIVX & USB £79
I`ve got one, its picky about what it plays, has an awful interface and I can`t for the life of me track down a multi region hack . . . keep clear
RE: Hack required for an Packard Bell Easydvd EDR2001
thanks for the help Hackeroonie . . . unfortunately I tried both of these hacks and neither has worked, so back to square 1 :(
RE: Hack required for an Packard Bell Easydvd EDR2001
I didn`t get any responses, but I`ve found out a little more and as this is sold in Dixons, Curries etc I assume that others will be interested as I was.
Apparently the EDR2001 DVD recorder is a cut down version of the Packard Bell EHR2080 (see here ) which also includes a harddisk. From what I`ve seen its got a bit of a bad press for being noisy, user unfriendly and a little unreliable, but its been cloned a lot . . . so this may apply to other models.
Here is a hack quoted for the EHR 2080 which is supposed to worked on the EasyDVD, but I haven`t tried it yet . . . will update later

Hack required for an Packard Bell EasyDVD EDR2001
Hi everyone, I`ve just received one of these as a leaving present and can`t find any details anywhere for a multi regions hack. Does anyone know if there is one, and if so what it is?
cheers
Ian

RE: King Kong at ASDA
Presumably instore, cos the website says £14.77
RE: Bush Internet Box £4.99
DO they tie you into a particular ISP or could you use the Fast4 unlimited dialup access for £6.99/month for instance ?
RE: Child Abuse
I`m not sure if a parent could or should be arrested or not for over feeding their kids, but surely parents would take their childs health more seriously if their responsibility for it was enforcable by law.
Would disinterested parents be so quick to palm their kids off with sweets and play stations to keep them quiet if they were likely to have repercussions themselves ?
If there was the threat of a child being taken away if the parents were destroying their health through neglect, would parents encourage their children to be more active and feed them better ? Lets face it if a child was starved how would we react ?
Obviously there would need to be a support mechanism put in place to educate those sailing close to the wind, and I`m pretty sure a parent of an obese 11 year old would take their kids health alot more seriously if Social Services were knocking on their door asking awkward questions.
My parents generation are living to a ripe old age, they are healthy, fit and active and a lot of this was due to an enforced healty diet during the war. I on the over hand, have bits hanging out all over and I certainly don`t expect to live as long as they do. However, thats my fault - as a child I (and most of my peers) was given a relatively healthy diet because thats what my parents had been brought up to do.
How long are the current crop of over weight kiddies going to last? They certainly won`t be breaking any longevity records. Who`s fault is it that they have got like this? and more importantly what should be done about it?
Child Abuse
I know you guys like a little bit of controversy so how about this one.
Prompted by a discussion about the program recently about the half ton man I remembered a conversation where my wife was chastised for suggesting that parents should be arrested for having fat kids.
Here was her reasoning :
If you are responsible for the upbringing and well being of your child, you should not allow them to excessively eat unhealthy foods to point where their obescity becomes a health problem. If you do you are responsible for health problems throughout their life (including adult hood) and you are possibly shortening their lifespan as well - that is physically abuse of that child.
Being over weight can also lead to psychological problems, bullying at school and lack of self esteem - that is emotional abuse of the same child.
Surely there can be no excuse for that ? It was argued that the parents only do it because they love their children, but parents aren`t allowed to strike their children any more . . . not even if they do it to discipline them because their parent love them, so why should parents be allowed to destroy their childs life by over feeding them.
Any comments ?
RE: BROADBAND OFFER
They do an unlimited dialup as well as broadband (£6.99)
Just had another look at the broadband service, download limit is 2Gb, the price includes £2 off if you subscribe to their telephone service (otherwise £11.98 ) and there is a £47 connection fee to get BT to install the line

RE: BROADBAND OFFER
At fast4 they are offering 2M broadband for £9.95 . . . as far as I can see this is not a limited offer although : there is a 3 month minimum contract, this not an unlimited download package (thats more expensive) but I can`t see what the limit is.
here
Might be useful for anyone who just wants to surf
RE: Cut up your Barclaycard NOW!!!
I used to pay into a Morgan Stanley Dean Witter credit card by standing order each month. Same date without fail the money went in, never a full payment but enough to reduce the balance each month. Then I started getting late payment charges, so I brought the date of the standing order forward, again after a couple of months more late payment charges, so I checked it out and the last payment date for each statement was up and down like a yoyo, it didn`t even appear to follow a pattern (eg second tuesday of the month except when it fell on a new moon).
My statement showed the payments going in on the same day each month, but some months the statements showed 2 payments, whilst the next showed no payment with a late payment charge slapped on it. I rang them up to complain and they just ignored me and said I hadn`t paid in the payment period and should manage my money better. To make matters worse I think they black marked me as a bad debter . . . . now I have direct debits for minimum payments for each card I use, even were they are paid up in full.
RE: Anyone had any experience of Love2Shop (High Street Gift Vouchers)
Erm, Argos aren`t on the list of suppliers . . . that may answer that question then :/
