LG-U890 on 3 for £4.99 for 12 months then £17.50 for 6 months (Loads of free calls and texts inc)

Being one of the many people who`ve got the Pay As You Go Sim Cards from O2 and thinking I was getting an excellent deal (ie.£15 a month gets me 300 Texts, 150 minutes free evening and weekend calls) I never thought I`d change - however, yesterday I spotted something that made me think again.

Whilst walking past Superdrug, of all places, I noticed a poster in their window for an LG-U890 Phone on 3 Network for £4.99 for the first 12 months. Normally, I`d walk past, but I thought I`d pop in and see if the offer was as good as the advertising. Strangely, it`s better than I thought.

Apart from giving you an LG-U890 Phone (Link Here) You also get the following within the £4.99 a month package.

800 Free Minutes X Network minutes for the first 6 months, then reduced to 400 Minutes.
500 Free Texts for the first 6 months, then reduced to 250 after that.
£5 of free Downloads a Month.
25 Video Minutes Free each month
25 MMS Messages Free each month

The contract is a Cashback offer - but this is good part. Despite them taking £17.50 from your account each month, they give you a voucher for the first 6 months which you redeem at Superdrug before you have your first deduction which gives you the money between £17.50 and £4.99 (eg. 6 * £12.51 = £76.06).

Once you`ve cashed that first voucher in, they give you a second voucher for £180.06 which you can redeem after the first 6 months. This means that you again get 6 months at £4.99, but you also get the remaining 6 months at the `normal` rate of £17.50, rather than the normal rate of £35 a month. eg
6 * £12.51 = £75.06
6 * £17.50 = £105.00 (Normal Contract with 3 on this Tariff is £35 a month - hence the hafl price offer originally)

The offer was that good, I got one for me, and one for the Wife. Between us, we were sticking approx £50 on our monthly pay phones, but now, we`re both liable to save loads.

Normal phone charges are on the Three Website - www.three.co.uk

Hope this is of some use to someone?

Marixon, where did you see this one? The wife is interested in this and we`ve been passed two Superdrugs today with no luck (admittidly, one was next door to a "3" shop
so may not have it for that reason!). Also, how long is the contract period, 12 or 18 months?
Thanks.

Have you tried switching it on........?

Hi Linebacker2. Sorry for delay replying, but Niteowl has already replied - although you might have a small problem. The Superdrug link on the Website, does take you to 3`s website, but there is no mention of the £4.99 deal on there. They do mention the £35 a month option, which this is based upon.

To get the £4.99 deal, you have to go to a Superdrug store with the 3 Sales Desk in it, and ask for the offer - despite my Superdrug (Stevenage) having the posters up. It appears that their original half price deal (making £17.50 a month) was extended, and bettered to £4.99 a month - but is based upon the standard £35 a deal 3 Currently offer.

If you have any problems, they could always contact Stevenage Store and check the deal over with them. The deal is not available direct from 3, as I checked their website, and 3 Stores as well - even checked The Link who said that Superdrug would not be able to do this offer - well, they did and I`m a happy consumer once again.

Hope this helps?

Not wanting to be a fly in the ointment, but me and the missus took out a cash back deal with a similar plan from 3 and an LG-U880 plus bluetooth headset - and have regretted it since. :(

On the plus side, over the year we have a contract for, with cash backs we are only end up really paying for stuff outside of free calls (which excludes 0800 and 0845 numbers) and downloads. 8)

On the downside, the battery dies in next to no time, the charger keeps dropping out so it doesn`t always charge up when you want to :/ .

The signal/reception is appalling and the interface is very unfriendly and not very flexible. To download music you need a T-Flash card (anyone know what that is ?) and trying to get the blue tooth to work took an age.

The package is cheap, but be aware of the limitations >:(

Hi Flabris. The T-Flash card is the Micro-SD Cards. Try this link to SVP - svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1563

The battery life on the 890 appears to be better than you experienced. So far, I charged it the day I got it, and it`s just had its second charge following loads of calls and plenty of playing with video`s and music etc.

I quite agree that the interface takes a while to get used to, but that`s why the wife reads the manual and teaches me all the fun stuff.
