RE: xbox - streeftfighter aniversairy edition

tap the d pad forwards just as the ball is about to hit you, its the new feature that came out in SF 3, you can tap forwards or down just as an attack is about to hit you....if you do it right it interrupts the opponents attack and gives you a brief chance to counter without them blocking, also stops you taking damage from special moves plus you can parry in the air....its tough to get down properly but cool when you do, allows some sly tricks especially in vs mode.

RE: PS2 - Third Person Western Game

Red Dead Revolvers prob a slightly above average effort, its got the atmosphere and there are some very nice touches like the `Dead Eye` moves which change for different characters...eg for the main guy everything slows down like the Matrix and you can target baddies all over and shoot them to hell in a split second...

thing is the AI is a bit duff and it really spoils it, you dont have the classic western shootouts, you can try to hide behind the barrels and pop people off but it dosent work to well as the baddies just charge you most of the time....the melee combat is a bit erm...cack as well....and to rack up the combos to unlock cool stuff its probably better to run around like crazy and plough into baddies rather than pick them off, you dont get hit if you keep moving either...

Its nearly a great western game but not quite, hopefully they tinker the gameplay in the sequal to have some proper shootouts and improve the brawling stuff then that would be superb

i expect those who got nicked with the credit cards (if they did at all) and `weapons` are more likely proper pirates with a very tenuous link to the release groups themselves...perhaps people who simply use the irc or ftp sites the groups use to download the warez, rather than being internal members of the groups themselves as the whole piracy for profit goes against the principle most of these groups....it does state as much in the article...

first it was the terrorism links, then organised crime, then child porn was thrown into the mix, now we have `weapons` and credit card fraud...i get the impression these subjects are tagged onto the piracy articles in a vain attempt to sway public opinion that the pirates are real baddies

hope that wasnt a p***take cos it really is an achievement to complete Ninja Gaiden...this is a big step up, or a next-gen step back to the hardness of the old NES titles...its like a tactical beat-em up in a 3rd person adventure game...the only things u can kill by button bashing are the very early ninjas, and they will take a fair bit of energy off you if you do...

ive not finished it yet a few other games distracted me so ive not played it for about a month now, im on the level with those evil fish...going to go back to it after ive done the career in Fight Night 2k4 and finished Pandora Tomorrow

i think it will take some adjusting for Pro Evo for me using the Xbox pad but it will all come natural in the end

R2 does a few subtle things like the little run to the side and the direction changes more so than R1 on Pro Evo 3 so i dont know how that will work, but it wont make a diff for the tactics commands or the attacking bar if it uses the white and black buttons on the S Pad

maybe the L and R on the xbox pad will be used like proper analogue buttons, the harder u press the faster u run, acelerate etc i think that would be smart and would also free the other 2 buttons for something else

yeah i was reading up on this, this you are a rogue 00 agent teaming up with the baddies like Goldfinger...you are going about your evil buisness all the time while James Bond is sneaking about messing things up for you and your nefarious cronies...

EA need to sort themselves out regarding Xbox live or this is going to be one of those only only on ps2...could be good though i think some of the old team is on board, something to do with the core Goldeneye developers who left during the development of Perfect Dark...i dont know who the team is i know Timesplitters 2 was Free Radical so maybe thats them

yeah ive left it alone for a bit am on chapter 12 or 13 now and loved it so far

the bosses for a start are like those in an old school game, u have to find the pattern to take them down etc....not to spoil it like but there was one i was having a nightmare with....until i found hit him when he is doing something....then his head hits the deck and u proceed to pummel him a bit :) if youre there u`ll know where i mean....red laser beam and wind :)

will have a crack again soon just bin sidetracked by some other things, but a superb game all round.....now those damn black ninjas know to fear the counter attack lol

RE: HELP NEEDED - some bad news

i have had aggressive chemo myself and i was exactly the same, it did vary from course to course but as it takes effect you will have some really hard times with it as hammers your body....some courses are relatively milder than others but as the chemo goes on you feel more worn out at the same time.

in my case the chemo was designed to attack the bone marrow, when the chemo took effect this ended up reducing my blood count and immune system, hence the weariness and general unwell feeling, plus the chemo makes you sickly as well...loss of appetite, sickness and the runs are all the norm i found as i was also taking supplemental drugs like IV antibiotics which have the side effect of killing off beneficial bugs in the body as well as the nasty ones, throwing you system off balance big time....
i dont know how the treatment will pan out for your dad but i felt the same, eg start feeling rough a bit, then when the chemo takes hold feel very rough...then when my blood count came up (the longest it took iirc was about a month after i finished one course, depends how aggressive the chemo was)...once your blood count and system starts coming back then you do start to feel better again and your dads timescale sounds the same as it was with me.....when i was in the middle of the rough patches it was more a case of making me comfortable and riding the storm than trying to feel right on form, it just couldnt be done and at time theres nothing anyone can do for you except keep you as comfortable or less poorly as possibly, most importantly its temporary but you can have a fair few weeks off feeling rough or being up and down, one day you feel ok another day you will feel sickly etc but like i said its temporary.

like the nurse said, its a good sign if you are feeling crappy anyway, it means you are reacting to the chemo and its attacking the stuff it needs to you just have to try and ride it out as best you can.

bin 7 yrs remission for me now i still have some minor probs here and there when i was rough and weak i got a hernia which cant be operated on but i keep under control with some ant-acid pills and its very easy to control...i find im a bit more susceptible to coughs and colds and bugs but that might just be me anyway cos my blood counts and immune system are fine.....

best wishes to you, your dad and the rest of the family...take the rough with the smooth and keep fighting all the way, no one expects you to be chipper all the time so dont bother trying to...just deal with it as best you and your dad can and he`ll have every chance to come out on top.... ;)



btw i see you worried a bit about your dad being a bit more lethargic with this treatment, this was same for me....first course was aggressive but i recovered quickly but stayed in hospital a long time, second course was mild and i recovered quickly and came home, 3rd course was aggressive and i was rough and took longer to recover but i still came home, 4th course was aggressive and i was very rough after it and it took me a long time to recover and a long stay in hospital, 5th course was milder and over quickly but i still had to go back into hospital with an infection i caught outside, it took a long time for my blood to recover but at the same time i had little ill effects while this was happening....

the nurses said it was a combination of the aggressivness of the treatment and the length i had undergone it so my body was weaker at the beginning of some of the courses...and the general mental weariness you feel all in all with the amount of time you have undergone this all comes into play so by a few courses of chemo mentally you are down and weary.....its nothing to be unduly worried about though, sometimes the chemo will hit you hard sometimes you are relatively unscathed.

my xbox is wired to my pc, u need some crossover cable, a nic in ure pc obviously and an ftp program

provided ure machine is chipped up and got one of the dashboards like EvoX things should be ok(only one ive networked with i also got Avalaunch on but not done the settings)

fire up ure xbox and go into the dashboard settings, from there give it a static ip and make sure u know ure pcs ip, enter them both into the settings in EvoX and you should be ok...save it an restart

u need an ftp program of somekind, i use flashfxp....u need to setup to browse ure xbox hdd...give it the ip address of the xbox and the username and password which with xbox dashboards is xbox,xbox as standard...enter all this save it and reboot ure xbox and the next time it boots you should be able to connect to browse the hdd and ftp files across

let me know how u get on not got much time to go through all the other details like pc network setup etc if u dont know that but hopefully the info above is a help

u need an app like dvd2xbox to rip the films and dvds to ure hard drive, u can do it with a standard hard drive but as its only 8 gig its going to eat up space fast....and a full dvd movie would be more than that, unlike the programs on a pc that can downsample the media...i modded mine with an 80gig Maxtor drive though and its superb especially with the media players on it...the divx and mp3 functionality is fantastic.

its not too difficult adding a new hard drive, but it can depend on the dashboard u are using, modchip and the bios on it.

there are tutorials on www.xbox-scene.com read through them and read through them again to be safe to ensure u have backed up properly and also got the setting right in the ini file.

before u add a hard drive u will also need to network the xbox and pc, this is useful whenever u wish to add ure own apps to the machine anyway as u will have to use an ftp program to spray files across...actually thinking about it if u are content with running the games from the disc and not the hard drive, and u have easy access to the pc u can share media files on ure pc to the networked machine using the media players and pc apps like ReLax share....u wouldnt be able to run emulators and games but music and movies can be shared this way, i have this set up as well as the extra drive and it works a treat....again check Xbox scene and its forums for specifics on setting this up (involves messing with xml config files its easy once u suss it though)

cdrw are fine in most xboxs as well they are more picky on poor dvdr and some will not read cdr....
if u have any problems or queries ill do my best to help u out with them.

one of the best places to get xbox apps btw is using an IRC client as websites wont host them most of the apps use illegally modified Microsoft code but there are a few Mirc channels which will provided what u need using IRC and an FTP program

some versions of the modchips now force the laser to keep reading and reading discs even if the media is bad quality or damaged, it ends up burning the laser out very quickly as well...i dont think theres any comeback though :(

lot of this has been happening lately ps2s going knackered in days after getting fitted :/

u are probably getting the error due to the fact its trying to boot from hdd rather right from the dvdrom....try making the evox boot cd and make sure the hdd is unplugged and only the evox disc is in

the guy on Premodded looks like hes selling a disc that includes a hard drive backup as well as all the good apps so that would probably be worth checking out...

if ure on broadband u could try to find the Slayers Auto EVO X installer disc which i think does the same as well....let me know how u get on im pretty sure this is fixable

it looks like the evox.ini file or whatever dashboard is included on that disc is wrong and the entries to add a new hdd havent been put in properly...

check out www.xbox-scene.com there are tutorials on there how to make a bootable evox cd which should allow u to edit the ini and configure the hdd properly....hopefully the evox cd will overwrite the files and put it right.

i just checked the premodded forums, it looks like the Northern Monkey auto install and apps disc will do the trick though it will involve forking out again, it contains the all important backup of the xbox C: and E: drives.......

if u backed them up ureself then u are ok as u can use make the evox disc ureself, format c: and use ftp to copy all the files across then install the Evo X dash again with all the right settings....

oh i say, this looks dashingly good heart pounding romp, Gywneth Paltrow looks supuyrb...

a bit like Crimson Skies the movie if ure into ure games, this film looks like it will pay homage to those old serials in much the same way the game does...all it needs are ppl in rocket suits (with big dials on the front with on-off-cutout at dramatic moment settings) and suspicously oriental looking baddie (or a least a Fu Manchu moustache) and its got it all :)

whaaaat?!?!? isnt that the other way round? Pro Evo 3 lvl 5 computer needs skill and a fair bit of luck to skip even around one player (Pro Evo 2 had some kind of AI problem on all difficulty levels there were ways to stop the machine closing you down near the 18 yr box so u could shoot a lot, though it would close down a pass and through ball or dribble if u got 2 close....xport users lower all the teams stats to balance this out),
the cpu rarely makes a mistake or commits unless u know how to draw it out like in real football, and even then its not certain...theres no set animation for the tackles so the ball is won in a whole different way than Fifa where if u commit a tackle u have to see it animate, the same animation everytime...instead u need to choose whether u use x button tackles, run into the ball, cover the player and bring someone else out with square or go for a slide...
Fifa u either block tackle or slide and hope the animation gets the ball for u...

Its because there arent the same set animation routines that allow Pro Evo to flow a bit better rather than the slightly stilted animation and play of Fifa, the transition between moves is smoother....ISS is an arcade game yup, Pro Evo and Winning 11 arent.

yup i got one with xecuter 2.2 in it and it was a very good move...

the usual features, playing backups (honest guv)...running hacked dashboards which then let u run more software like emulators, multiregion dvd stuff....stuff like xbox media player that is good for mp3s and divx files (havent used the xbox media centre, that looks better but theres no final version released yet)...u can fit a large hdd in, i got an 80gig though u can now mod em with 300gig drives with the new bios...

well worth getting done basically

theres always issues somewhere along the line with these swap discs and flip top lids...games come out with high TOC sizes that wont work so u end up needing a new boot disc...

spend the extra money and buy a Messiah 2 or other non swap modchip and save yourself the hassle in the long run

we did it the other day in a Mario Kart session, i think it was doing golds in all the cups m8, there was some blue kart that got unlocked as well at same time as well as Toadette...cant remember we werent going out to unlock him we just got him while we were playing but im sure it was after golds on all cups...might have been on 150cc i cant remember...
