Sims 2 Problem

Hope somebody can help me.
I have installed the Sims 2 & The Sims 2 University Expansion pack. However when i try and actually play the game i can tll a sim to do do about 2 things and the game just freezes.
At first i thought my soundcard was knackered as i got the repeating sound problem, however i have since removed the sound card but still it crashes.
I have tried disabling my Virus protection (Norton Internet security 2005) before playing it and also shutting down any unwanted programs.

My PC Spec is
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8Ghz)
1GB Memory
Plenty of availible disk space (About 50GB Free)
GeForce 3 64MB Ti 200 Graphics Card
When it was in Soundblaster Live 5.1 Sound Card
Direct X 9.0c Seemed to have installed correctly.

Has anyone else had or heard of a similer problem and how did you/ they fix it

Thanks

Paul

RE: Whats your top 5 telly programmes of all time?

RE: What`s happened to orange & red on my PC?

not sure if this is similer to your problem or not. however the problem i had was that reds came out a very faint orange, and generally every other colour wasnt the colour it was supposed to be... Anyway i solved the problem by simply pressing the `Degauss` button on my monitor. It may be a button or if your monitor has an on screen menu it may be in there. This i belive gets rid of some or all of the magnetic c**p which has built up on the monitor.

Hope this is of some help.

RE: Sky digital dish position?????

Just wondering as its not something i am totally sure about... When you move house or leave a house which you have been renting.. Do you take the dish with you, or do you just take the set top box?

Xupitor (Does it Annoy You?)

Hi.
I have absolutly no idea what i have done but my internet explorer has started showing another taskbar called Xupitor. Although i can get rid of this (Which i often have to to because next time i run IE its back again) but when i accidently type in a wrong address in the address bar, it goes to the xupitor sort of search engine web site along with hundreds of other annoying pop up windows. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to turn it off caus its driving me insane. I have tried removing its folder which has appeared in program files but that leads to lots of crashes. I am running Windows XP Pro with the Supplied IE 6.

DVD Audio

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the Lecson DVD 900 or the Panasonic E30 DVD Recorder will play DVD Audio disks?

Also What is special about DVD Audio? Is it simply better quality than a regular CD or does it have extra features like Videos? A particular DVD-A I am particuarly interested in is the Eagles - Hotel California found on play.

RE: Paul W.S. Anderson interview on Resident Evil...

Sorry but i thought Resident Evil was excellent and have even already ordered it on DVD! As for the director.. if he directed Event Horizon as well, i say good luck to him. Event Horizon i thought was also v good. Dont forget however that Resident evil IS based on a Computer game and if you think of the other movies which have followed a computer game they are.. well pitifull. I am of course talking about Street Fighter and as dicanio mentioned earlier.. Mortal kombat. Sorry Dicanio but Mortal kombat was Awfull.

RE: HDD Cache

Thanks for the info. I did in the end decide to go for two 80GB IBM disks both with 2MB cache. i couldnt really see the extra benefit in the extra cache. The reason i wanted two was so one can be used for operating system software etc and the other is purely fo MP3s alone. I do intend on getting one or two more 80GB disks so that i can make use of the RAID function that i also have on my otherboard to mirror the other disks to serve as a form of backup as at the moment im playing it dangerously with no backup at all.

Thanks again

RE: broadband

have you downloaded the latest winmx as this allows to to download the same song/file off many differant people at the same time and therefore you can get an entire song in a matter of a couple of minutes even if every user is still only using a modem? Winmx is the best one ive come accross but i will be keeping an eye on this thread to hear of any suggestions!

HDD Cache

Hi i am looking to buy two new hard disks and my final selection has come down to this. Either 120GB Vancouver HDD and an 80GB Vancouver HDD both ATA 100 7200RPM and 2MB Cache OR two Western Digital 80GB HDD ATA100 7200 RPM only with 8MB cache. Basically the latter has a significantly higher cache and i was wondering does this make great deal of differance in access speeds etc. My PC will eventually running Windows Xp and is an Athlon 1600XP+ 512MB DDR RAM if that has any influance on your answer.

RE: ITV Digital on the brink

i dont actually belive i have ever watched ITV digital but a for the likes of NTL and Telewest, i really do hope that they are able to stay in business. If you want the full range of channels then yes you should probably opt for Sky digital but if you want to filter out all the c**p that Sky create then there isnt anything better than NTL, for the reason that you can pretty much state what channels you want and then you get charged accordingly. I think ITV just spemnt way to much on advertising, and what is it with that monkey anyway!

RE: 2 Hours and No Sound!!!

First of all you should be able to get sound OUT of your TV via scart but you may have to change a simple setting via the TV`s on screen menu. the type of menu will probably look like a box (your tv) with probably two lines coming out of it and oone line going in you something similer depending on how many scarts youve got. you should be able to set it so that one of the scart sockets either outputs whatever you see on screen, or whatever comes in via another scart socket. Plug it into the phono inputs on your processor and not the co axial one.

For pro logic sound i am not too familier with your processor, but on the yamaha DSp 800 you plug the TV into the standard left and right phono in`s on the processor and then turn the effect on the processor to on (ensuring your in dolby pro logic mode and not one of the other effects (e.g. Stadium))

Hope this helps

RE: Whats the best software around for running DVDs on your PC???

What speed computer does everyone use?
I was wondering becuase i also use PowerDVD (although im not sure what version) along with DVD genie for the region free bit, and while the picture quality is good it slows down whenever there is alot happening on screen or the camera moves quickly.

Is there a cure for this or is it just my computer is a little slow nowadays?

The comp is a K6 2 450Mhz with 512 RAM, VooDoo 3 3000 Graphics card, Pioneer DVD 116 Player
