Xupitor (Does it Annoy You?)

Hi.
I have absolutly no idea what i have done but my internet explorer has started showing another taskbar called Xupitor. Although i can get rid of this (Which i often have to to because next time i run IE its back again) but when i accidently type in a wrong address in the address bar, it goes to the xupitor sort of search engine web site along with hundreds of other annoying pop up windows. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to turn it off caus its driving me insane. I have tried removing its folder which has appeared in program files but that leads to lots of crashes. I am running Windows XP Pro with the Supplied IE 6.

Right, I take it you`ve got Kazaa on your PC? Because its due to this you`ll probably have the utter crap that is Xupitor.

Firstly, remove Kazaa off of your PC. See if this gets rid of Xupitor (it`ll be in your Programs folder somewhere), and then install KazaaLite instead (go to the www.kazaalite.com website to get it) as this is advert free.

Hopefully you should have got rid of it with no problems, but if not you`ll need to delete manually (through Programs etc.). I actually had problems with this file as it tried to really mess my PC up, and I ended up having to delete the last bits of the file off of the Registry just to get my PC working 100%. So be careful!

May also be worthwhile installing Ad Aware to check there`s no other crapola on your system :

Great program for removing "spyware"

If you`re going to get kazaalite, you still need Kazaa itself on your system, Kazaalite is just a piggyback program that cuts out nearly all the pop-ups (you still get one when you minimise) but it is not another version of kazaa by itself, you still need the original

Who the heck told you that ? I`ve been running KazaaLite on my system without the original for ages !

Poppycock, dear Stantz, total poppycock...

"Funny, when i installed kazaalite, I was sure it re downloaded kazaa onto my system."

This only happens if a newer version of Kazaa is available and you click "yes" when asked if you want to update. The new Kazaa (complete with spyware) will be downloaded and installed over the top of KazaaLite.

So, make sure you always answer "no" to this question ;-) If you want to update to a newer version of KazaaLite, you`ll have to download it manually from the KazaaLite home page.

BTW, I wouldn`t bother with AdAware at the moment - it hasn`t been updated since September! Try Spybot Search and Destroy instead, from http://spybot.eon.net.au/

Mike

ok, as a test, I uninstalled kazaa and diet kazaa from my system, then re-installed the newest version of Diet Kazaa from Download.com.

After starting up, Diet Kazaa told me that it couldn`t find any instance of Kazaa on my system, then it opened a browser with the Kazaa homepage on it, and instructed me to download the Kazaa media desktop.

Diet Kazaa on it`s own is nothing with out at least the base elements of the main Kazaa program

What`s your problem with spyware, doesn`t it support the Kazaa we all know and love.....can`t see your problem.
