I think you have to have clear line of sight to the satellite and roof tiles would block any signal to such a degree that in all probability the system would not work.
I am not sure if you would be able to mount it in a spare ? room pointing through the glass to the same position. The reason I say this is because a flat in the High Street in Falkirk had a dish behind glass. Not sure if it worked, but having said that, there would be no point in sitting it at a window and leaving it there if it did not work.
If you have even a small garden you might be able to position the dish there on the correct fittings.

I heard of a guy that had a similar problem, and stuck a dish in the attic after fitting a loft window, and that worked fine, but this is not first hand knowledge - it was a friend of a friend type thing....

Just wondering as its not something i am totally sure about... When you move house or leave a house which you have been renting.. Do you take the dish with you, or do you just take the set top box?

You just take the set top box. Why aren`t you allowed a dish? Is it a protected building?

Dont see why you can`t fit it outside.

A lot of houses hide them at ground level, although you have to watch line of sight in case of interuption.

You can fix the dish in the garden on a pole, wall or shed at a fair distance from the house and bury the cabling.

You can camoflage the dish with bushes, fencing, ect.

If you live in the south, you can fit the smaller dish as reception is easier.

If you are not allowed an outside dish, try a Digiglobe : http://www.cabletecsatellite.com/ or http://www.midsat.co.uk/prodpage.cfm?CategoryID=4352&CFID=3567709&CFTOKEN=74059614
There are many other sources if you do an internet search.

There is also a wedge-shaped device for the same purpose
