RE: brotherhood of the wolf

i`ve got the 5 disc version of fellowship of the rings on pre order and have no intention of buying any other version first and i`ll take the same approach with Brotherhood of the wolf and wait for the multi disc canadian r1 to come out (everything subtitled apparently).

RE: CD NOW

if by customs friendly you mean marking the packages as gifts or undervaluing the contents the answer is no as the only time I`ve paid duty was on an order from them worth £25 (the first and last time I ordered anything from abroad without splitting into smaller amounts).
They`re fairly reliable, can be slow sometimes and the postage is a bit high at about $6 but I`d buy from them again as they have one of the largest catalogues of music and film

RE: Anyone having problems with CD-WOW?!?

My parents had problems logging into their account, I had problems when I tried and asked them about it. The response I got said they were having problems with some customers logging in and that i should use
http://aol.cd-wow.com/ instead which seems to work okay. Mind they gave a different suggestion to my mothers query which didn`t work as it was suggesting an attempt to create an account when one already exists. I suspect they`ve updated their site recently and are having user database problems.

RE: Movietyme - How Play247 used to be!

They all vary, I haven`t had any problems with play recently but i prefer sites with on line tracking even if that means I keep finding my order for The Water Margin (the book not the videos) has been "On Order" for the past 4 weeks with Bol (I suspect a "cannot source this item" result.
Plus some form of recorded delivery if possible so theres no argument as to who lost it and less time before a failure to deliver is recognised.

RE: Anyone heard the new Tom Waits albums?

His early stuff is a bit more mainstream, I have most of his later albums but having listened to one of his early ones i may give the rest a miss even though theres only about three i haven`t got.
He also wrote the song Heartattack and Vine that was was used in the jeans advert with the new orleans style funeral march down a town street but that was performed by Screaming Jay Hawkins and no one asked Tom Waits who then took his record company or agent to court over it. I think he`s also taken legal action over an advert using someone picked to sound like him. Recently he had to find 4 emus to appear in a video after the original 4 were eaten overnight by some hungry coyotes :)

RE: Anyone heard the new Tom Waits albums?

£8.99 each from cd-wow and reviewed in the current issue of nme

RE: QED UK GOOD SERVICE

One good point about them is they give you a phone number and reference number so you can ring the delivery company to find out when its turning up. I ordered Yamaha speakers from them and took tuesday off to receive it, and a Yamaha receiver from richer sounds and didn`t know when it was turning up till the "tried to deliver" card appeared.

RE: Feroce (French Film) on DVD

according to imdb this film was made in 2002 and was released in france last week so unless its going straight to video then not for a while yet

RE: Enable SVCD...

A friend bought a ferguson player which I looked up the hack code for on this site, if you look at this hack you`ll find one (rather complicated one) listed for making it play VCDs so theres at least one player that doesn`t play vcds straight off (don`t know about SVCDs). Mebbe its on a relevant features for the market though i can`t see why you`d bother disabling irrelevant features either

RE: Anyone got any address`s of decent and reliable German and French DVD retailers then, PLEASE

www.dvdzone2.com - who have Eighth day for 21.99 (euros that is)
http://www.dvdshoppingcenter.com/
and if price isn`t a worry then www.amazon.fr who will have stuff that sites dealing with english customers won`t. Forinstance I bought the double CD OST of In the Mood For Love from them as CDZONE were taking ages. Note also that if you have an account on amazon.co.uk it can be used on any other amazon (though I haven`t bought anything from amazon.jp yet, just all the others)
Remember that some of the stuff on the english language sites won`t have english subtitles.

RE: Decent Region 3 supplier?

www.dddhouse.com had it recently too so check them out

RE: 81 DVD`s & Still Nothing To Watch !!

what you need is Doctor Nicks DVD buying addiction cure, available for $15 on DVD or video :)

RE: 81 DVD`s & Still Nothing To Watch !!

perhaps you should buy Hi fidelity and start ordering the DVDs by date of release/purchase or thematically. Get a DVD burner and start making compilations of greatest scenes for friends. :)

RE: LEXX Series 2 Region 1 or 2?

region 2 is 5 episodes and region 1 is 4, note the extras are different e.g mantrid episode commentary on region 2 and kai interview on region1 for volume 2.1.
Region 1 claims uncut episodes but i`m damned if i can find any details on the lengths of each anywhere.

RE: CDWow Were do they deliver from???

hong kong and holland amongst other places.
Do they sell anything for more than £14.99 ? £18 being the minimum point at which customs take an interest (£36 if marked as gift)

RE: Are there any UK retailers/online that sell legitimate VCD`s?

why are you interested ? As far as I can see the only ones being sold in the UK would have been porn films (the porn industry are usually the first to exploit new forms of media and technology) as only the chinese and japanese bought the players in quantity, there are plenty of vcds available from chinese sites but predominantly chinese films.

RE: Which "obscure" films would you like to see on DVD?

Coincidentally I have ashes of time on order from www.dddhouse.com for about $hk 93 (£9) inc p & p (along with brother for about £6). Okay so its probably region 3 and they`re being a bit slow at the moment as they`ve just decided to do a stock take.
They have a fair number of the other wong kar wai films as well though not fallen angels and they`re mosly £9 plus p&p

RE: Which

Le Samourai isn`t even available on video.
I`d like to see
The Masque of the Red Death (and a selection of other Corman and Price films)
Amateur (Hal Hartley film , try searching for that without getting 5000 porn films listed)
A whole selection of Almodovars earlier films a few of which are available in america but not many.
Various John Waters films which like Almodovars are available if recent but sparsely for the earlier ones.

RE: dvdzone2.com

I take it you speak french or swedish.
If not then DVDMOD have the american release (called "Show me Love" with english subtitles) for £17 + £1 postage and thats recorded delivery so no educating postal workers in the qualities of foreign films at your expense

Calling all retailers - if it rattles don`t send it out

Having received another DVD delivery where at least one box makes a rattling noise and the dvd inside has a number of scuff and scratch marks (hopefully its still playable) on it I`m getting somewhat miffed with dealers who mail them out in this state . Likewise the use of cases that either a. don`t hold dvds very well or b. are shoddily packed by the packers at the manufacturers.
On the other hand the chinese dvds come in boxes where the part holding the dvd slots into a matching part on the front section of the case so the dvd cannot come loose. Okay so its difficult to put a booklet in but i can live without a extra redundant chapter listing and cover photo and list of unwatchable dvds marketed by the same publisher if it stops dvds being damaged.
So guys, if it rattles don`t mail it , if it does then check it and then make sure its properly mounted at the least.

RE: Audition from DDDHous - ***BIG SPOILER WITHIN***.

Aaaah but would you try accupuncture after seeing this film ?
Check out some of the directors other films, seems to have done some quite surreal gangster films.
These japanese horror films make a change from the american ones which seem to have forgotten about horror and tend to play for laughs for a teen audience these days.

RE: splashdvd

I got that message too which was then followed by a message apologizing for sending a long list of their customers on it. A quick check of the properties of the message revealed emails for everyone from D to J.
Mind you my sister received an apology without receiving the original message.
I checked the new web sites catalogue and found some things missing that were in the original e.g Brotherhood of the wolf ost cd not there so i`ve sent them an email querying whether the catalogue is complete or still being expanded. Especially as an order I have with them is no longer listed as an orderable item on the new web site

RE: Futureent.com & `Suspiria`

someone I know had a similar experience with Sazuma, mind you they were getting somewhat p***ed off when it was 2 weeks since the status had gone to despatched and no discs but were pleased when their order that included The Beyond turned up with the special multi disc edition in the tin. Must be something about Italian cult horror directors though personally i don`t think i`d gamble on getting the special editions by ordering these versions.

RE: Movietyme delivery times.

i rang them up recently and they actually called me back yesterday and said they`d email me the link to the lost mail claim form (they swear blind that they mailed the dvd and sent a confirmation email neither of which i received), I`ll give them till this afternoon to send the link then i`m ringing back.

RE: anyone tried DVD movie club

I was asking for opinions on them and if you don`t knopw the address then you haven`t used them , go look in the links/region 2 retailers, they specialize in hong kong/japanese/korean dvds.
Guess I`ll just have to try them myself though i hate forking out twice for the same dvd.

anyone tried DVD movie club

Having been taken for a ride by movietyme (i.e take the money, no deliver)
I`m trying to source a Korean DVD from somewhere else and DVD Movie club have it at a similar price and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of buying from them (not being a source of charity for badly run DVD stores I do`t want to donate another £20 to dubious outfits)

RE: Movietyme delivery times.

So you decide to order the Dirty Harry box set from them, will they deliver it or won`t they ? Well are you feeling lucky punk ?
Frankly they seem to display a less helpful attitude than that, a "we can afford to lose customers" mentality. If I have to spend £3 to £4 extra on DVDs from other importers then for the £19.99 they effectively stole from me thats 5 to 6 DVDs worth. Makes ordering from CDNOW seem reasonable

RE: Movietyme delivery times.

I ordered a DVD before christmas , they debited my credit card on christmas eve , I have not received an email informing me they have dispatched it and have not received the DVD. They responded to my first query saying they`d look into it but have ignored other emails so i`m dubious about ever ordering anything from them ever again
Note that in my experience the dispatch email usually turns up at the same time as the DVD.

RE: Scary Films?

I would suggest The Haunting but the original isn`t available except as VHS, then theres The Changeling another haunted house film thats available on DVD region 1. As you liked Blair witch try The last broadcast which came out at the same time and is similar in style but with a definite rather than vague ending.
Audition is scarier than Ring/Ring 2, ugh the needles , yerk the cheese wire :(

RE: DangerMouse DVD (Well someone maybe interested)

Hmm I seem to have a copy of the offending (literally supposedly) DangerMouse DVD with original artwork. Play247 dispatched it on the saturday before the original release date. One of the times it pays to preorder i guess
