Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade or hack DVD player so that it can play SVCD.
I heard that there are some codes??
Does anyone have information or link about that.
Thanks for replies.
And your player is...?
GRUNDIG GDV110 (same as PHILIPS DVD710).
if you have something....
so, no one here have informations about codes or hacks for enable SVCD (in any brand)?
I can`t believe that...
Didnt realise DVD players needed a hack to play SVCD - I always assumed that they can either play them as a standard feature or they cannot.
I cant understand why a company would include SVCD playback technology in the DVD player and then disable it and expect the user to hack it to enable it.
Are you sure you have got your facts right about the idea of SVCD hacks?
A friend bought a ferguson player which I looked up the hack code for on this site, if you look at this hack you`ll find one (rather complicated one) listed for making it play VCDs so theres at least one player that doesn`t play vcds straight off (don`t know about SVCDs). Mebbe its on a relevant features for the market though i can`t see why you`d bother disabling irrelevant features either
Apologies if you`ve already done this, but worth a try.....
Look at www.vcdhelp.com and then look at dvd player compatability list and search for grundig. In the user review someone mentions enabling svcd playback using a hack for the philips. You`ll have to search for the philips hack.

It`s a licensing issue.
DVD player manufacturers have to pay Philips a licensing fee for the use of the VCD and SVCD format, which is why players often have the capability of playing these discs but have it disabled in firmware.
