just got an e-mail off these guys announcing their 1st birthday and that I was valued customer - I`ve never ordered from these people before nor have I been on their web site - & there`s something strange about their site its identical to that of under18.org

has anyone ordered from them or received the same email

Yeah.

I got the email but couldn`t open it - kept crashing my system. Eventually I browsed the source text and got the following :-

Dear Customer

This weekend is a busy one for us. Firstly we are pleased to announce a
name change- we can take a hint!! and from this weekend will be known as www.splashdvd.com We are also celebrating our first birthday and by way of a thank you to our loyal customers as well as a means of telling people about our makeover we are pleased to be able to offer this exclusive promotion.
Click on the link below for more details on how you can get money off or
even free dvds. www.splashdvd.com/splash/reg_signup.cfm

etc etc

This reportedly comes from Alaistair Jerom-Smith (la[at]ku.gro.81rednu)
so it seems that Under18.org.net are changing their site name & URL but will still be `Toppers` as the source company. The new site is a carbon copy of U18, just updated a bit.

Strange that there`s no banner or mention of this on the original site though....I`d wait for a bit...just in case this is some sort of scam.

UPDATE = Just checked an outstanding order on the new site and all the details were there & seemed correct. So it looks as if it`s OK.
(remember just `cos your paranoid doesn`t mean they aren`t out to get you!)

I got that message too which was then followed by a message apologizing for sending a long list of their customers on it. A quick check of the properties of the message revealed emails for everyone from D to J.
Mind you my sister received an apology without receiving the original message.
I checked the new web sites catalogue and found some things missing that were in the original e.g Brotherhood of the wolf ost cd not there so i`ve sent them an email querying whether the catalogue is complete or still being expanded. Especially as an order I have with them is no longer listed as an orderable item on the new web site

I`ve just looked, and seen that something I ordered from them a week and a half ago for 11.99 has gone up by three quid! I`m sure it wasn`t in a sale or anything.

I got A-F which was a bit worrying since lotsa Email worms mail to the first 50 or so people in your address book (once had a `myparty` worm/email from a company registration server !)

I think that if your email addy starts with a certain letter, you get X amount of addys from there on - so if you`re aderf[at]moc.yyy.xxx then you`ll probably see addresses beginning F-I or something.
