RE: DVP-NS300 Widescreen Problems

Hey M8,
All depends on the aspect ratio, i thought i was going barmy when i first purchased my W/screen panny
The aspect ratio 1.77:1 is your 16.9 or w/screen which will play full screen, then you have the letterbox versions that will play with the upper and lower lines. The next aspect ratio tends to be 1.85:1 which again should play at full screen. The biggest will be 2.35:1 or Cinemascope- more DVD`s have this these days so you are gonna have the lines as it needs to lessen the height to ensure the correct ratio to the width.

RE: I disagree with that blanket statement

He he I work across from Scan at the Reebok stadium every other week in Bolton. If some of u want me to I will throw stones at the building and shout abusive messages!! Seriously there are too many upset people on here to ignore about Scan. Lets face it there is one lad i know that works for them and believe me if I was happy to buy a DVD player from him then my name is "Dont believe a word they say". Another friend was there a month or so ago gettin PC parts and all the people there were returning DVD players mmmm!!!

RE: What DVD Player?

A short addition.
From what i have read sooo many times is go with the tosh. Overall quality is above the LG and u have component video out if u upgrade your tv in the future, you will have quite simply the best picture quality available.

RE: Any suggestions on

I have got a Sony DAVS300 and am more than happy with the system. but if you can stretch to the DAVS500 then its totally go for it. Each satellite has an extra 10watt power (30-40) and the sub has increased power too. The system is Super Audio CD compat aswell which sets it above the 300. So yeah go for it, my 300 is for an non-audio/cinephile all i want and need and the 500 exceeds my spec.

RE: Picture Too Far Left On W/S

I have posted before regarding this, does anyone know if service menus are available from the handset on the Panasonic TX32DK1? My image is left and have come to the conclusion it is my sony player as this works on another tv! DVD is a sony DAVS300, The T2 and S/wars Ep 1 THX optimizers are shifted left about 3/4inch.
TIA

THX Optimizer and DVD screen position

Yes, well I have had two 32in w/screens-a goodmans which was returned and the Panny 32DK1 which i got yesterday. The probs are that the THX optimizer on the S/W EP1 and T2 disks display the outer box on the w/screen viewer test off the left hand side of the screen. It is about an index finger width but occurs on Composite, S-vid to S-vid and S-vid to scart leads on two seperate tvs aswell as mine. Is this to be expected or a problem with the player, I have a Sony DAVS300, chipped and all that. I have carried out all tests required by the supplier and all fail. What next? Sit there and accept or push for a repair/exchange.
Any Help Gratefully accepted.

RE: namorphic issue.westy where r u?

was not displaying, Need the help.

namorphic issue.westy where r u?

I may have a problem and I may not!!
I have a sony davs300 and a goodmans w322ns tv. 1.85:1 plays full screen and 2.35:1 plays with the borders, anamorphic or not. From a search on previous threads this seems to be normal, I dont know for sure though. The TV is cheap but value, no bells and whistles so no extra anamorphic adaptability i presume. Is this what I should expect from this setup?
One other thing due to the sony davs300 i am on a cheapish s-video to scart connect, on the terminator 2 and star wars ep 1 THX setups the widescreen borders are shifted horizontally left on my TV, not standing for this, comet are coming to look at the TV, is this just an horizontal trimming adjustment?
Would be grateful for a reply ASAP, just to ensure the Comet engineer doesnt try a fob off tactic.
TIA

RE: Lowest cost 32

In the same position, i have everything apart from the new TV, only gonna spend up to £500, a knowledgable friend advised to get what he calls a monitor, i.e. sound dont matter as i have all that with the amp etc. What matters is the picture, for either £400 or £500 he recommends the goodmans 28 and 32inch sets, checked what tv and vid and they get 4 and 4.5 out of 5 rating!! me gonna go after those january sales for one.
HTH.

RE: Ultimate Surround Sound DVD ?? Suggestions PLEASE ....

Cable problems

Looks like i had one deleted maybe?
I will try again.
I have bought the Sony DAVS300 system and it was shipped with an S vid to scart lead (by the shop) which produces the worst picture I have ever seen! the composite is ok and it would prove to me the disks are ok. I have a Mitsubishi tv which is a few yrs old but has never let me down yet. There is noise interferance and it is unwatchable. Can anyone suggest a solution? I may try to get a standard s-vid to s-vid connector to try that out as will be better than the composite as a matter of course i suppose.
Hope u all will help as u have done in previous questions.
Cheers

S Video to Scart connector

Hope u guys can help me here the wife is pretty miffed!
Just purchased the Sony davs300 all in one solution, which has supposedly had a mod chip installed by LE concepts of bishop auckland. All is not well though! they supplied an Svideo to scart connector due to the lack of scart on the player(Shame Sony), all I get is an awful picture on this and it impossible to watch. The composite is an ok picture but that is not what i want. The disks are clean. The cable is a cheapy Prowire gold connector but this should do the job still. The Tv is a Mitsubishi AV320 which is a few yrs old but has a great picture on everything else. Am i better trying a normal S Vid cable to the TV along with the audio L/R? What could be causing the bad piccy? Also how would the multi region work from the mod chip? Gonna bell them tomorrow, but should I have received instructions?

RE: I want a system on a budget

Cheers Westy v. helpful.

I want a system on a budget

You fellas/lasses seem very helpful so please help :
A friend of mine recommended on the cheap/cheap/cheap

Phillips player - doesn`t matter which even though he will chip any player (excl sony and pioneer) that doesn`t have an RCE compat control hack.
The Kenwood receiver in Richer Sounds for either £150 or £175 (seems to have gone up)
I would use the speakers from my old aiwa pro logic system and buy a sub.
I would utilise the optical out on the aiwa to receiver to ensure the mrs gets her local radio, and
co-ax the dvd to the receiver, for under £400 could i do better?
