Ultimate Surround Sound DVD ?? Suggestions PLEASE ....

foxmeister (Competent) posted this on Friday, 5th October 2001, 10:39

I own a multi region Pioneer DVD player connected to the Videologic DTS Digitheatre.
My particular `fetish` is for DTS discs (for obvious reasons) and do own quite a few but recently I`ve been disappointed with the lack of surround sound on certain titles, especially from the rear speakers.
My all time favourite has to be Almost Famous region 1 (watch out for the Directors/Bootleg Edition out in December) if you have watched the DTS version you will know what I mean !!
Basically does anyone have any recommendations for discs that are going to test each one of my speakers and make me jump off my seat in shock and awe !!!!

Just want to ask what`s so special about the DTS in Almost famous? I have the same R1 version but due to lack of space in the living room I am unable to get a surround sound system. I love the movie too but it`s not exactly an action packed movie with bullets flying around. Most of it is talking, can you clarify?

Just to clarify the reason Almost Famous is my favourite is not because of the action (there is a lack of it in the film) but for the music and concert scenes.
I listen to it full blast, it is very easy to imagine that you are actually in the front row of the concert with all the screaming fans around !!
I do own Saving Private Ryan DTS and yes the battle scenes are out of this world, thanks for the recommendations, please keep them coming, I`m itching to spend some cash, currently waiting for Mummy Returns DTS region 4 ........... I`ll let you know !!

Galaxy Quest R1 DTS: Awesome space battle sound, and the film is damn funny too...

Keep an eye on all forethcoming Dreamworks releases, they all seem to carry DTS... i can`t wait for A.I. - Artificial Intelligence...

DTS ones:
T2 Ultimate Edition, Saving Private Ryan, The Mummy, Almost Famous, The Road To Eldorado, U-571, Die Hard Five Stars Collection.

DD 5.1 or else, but with nice spatial:
The Blues Brothers, Tarzan, 8MM, Pink Floyd - The Wall, Matrix, Vertical Limit (action scenes, please), Memento (has its moments, but far from an action movie), Jurassic Park (Rex`s roar will shake your groove).

For those who think they don`t have space for a home theatre, I must recommend something like my Pioneer HTZ 55DV. It`s payd every cent invested on it, withou occupying half the space a "normal/usual" home theatre system would require. Sounds simply great.

Regards,

José Azevedo

Aunt Flo, there are two versions of SPR, with DTS and without.
