towards the end of series 2, I have a slight problem with this program now, which isn't really a problem, as it's still probably the best thing on TV at the moment, but you can't really watch it as a pick me up now, the tissues aren't just wiping away tears of laughter :(
It's not quite on Shane Meadows levels of depressing/funny/depressing/funny, but the emotional rollercoaster is real :)

Yeah, I think I read the original season was supposed to be 10 episodes but was then made 12 (due to success of S1 I assume) - so they wrote two pretty much standalone episodes that didn't really 'add' much to the story and could almost be inserted anywhere. It was the coach Beard episode and the Christmas one.

Just finished season 2, so much fun, and tears.
SPOILER: I do like how they just kept going with Nate's story arc.
