For anyone who likes a bit of long shot bets.

For the World Cup golden boot.

Landon Donavon 460/1
Clint Dempsey 650/1

Both on Betfair. I`ve had a £10 on each.

Basically don`t fancy England to beat them and reckon they are likely to grab a goal against England and will get a couple against Slovenia and Algeria.  They are the two main goal threats also.

USA knocked out Spain in confederations cup last year and lost in final to Brazil.

I`d fancy USA to get to the quarter finals also.

Basically once the group stages are over, if either has a few goals their odds will have come in massively and I`ll lay my bet to get a guaranteed profit (basically will offer odds to others of 20-30/1 that they won`t be top goalscorer).

There`s obviously better candidates for top goalscorer if you`re picking players, but basically they are well overpriced.  The Golden Boot is rarely won by a player for the eventual champions (or even runners up)

2006- Klose, 5 goals (Crepso runner up- 3 goals)
2002- Ronaldo, 8 goals (Rivaldo/Klose joint runners up- 5 goals)   This is the exception to the rule
1998- Davor Suker, 6 goals (Joint runners up Batistuta Vieri- 5goals)
1994- Hristo Stoichkov, 6 goals and Oleg Salenko (Klinsmann, Romario, Baggio, Kennet Andersson- 5goals)
1990- Salavator Schillaci, 6 goals (Tomas Skuhvary- 5 goals)
1986- Gary Lineker, 6 goals (Maradona, Careca, Butragueno- 5 goals)

So Rio is out as per the other thread and looks like Drogba could follow him as he broke is elbow or some shizzle.

Just added this message to bump the thread really.

Well prediction time, Argentina for me, think this will go down as the Messi world cup, best player, top scorer and world cup winner.

With that bet an accumulator will get you more money I think as the odds on getting the exact score in each game would gain you more money.

I`m unconvinced on Argentina.

Playing 4 centre backs and no full backs is madness.

Messi, Higuain, Aguero, Tevez, Milito is a dangerous strike force but only 2 will start in all likelyhood.

Martin Palermo is Maradona`s golden boy and is likely to get a shout before whoever is sub also.

Spain are the team you look at and think should win it, but I`m just thinking they won`t.

Brazil are now surprisingly efficient and based on defence first, plus Luis Fabiano is a goal machine, but they are in a really hard group.

If Van Persie keeps banging them in (Arsenal`s loss looks like their gain as he`s looking fresh) and Robben is fit enough to play, then the Dutch could finally get it together and win something.

You say that like they haven`t won as many major trophies as us or as though they havent been in more major finals than us
