Gareth Barry of Aston Villa?
And now you`ve made me bring out this old chestnut:
Sunderland did it in 1979, Villa did it in 1981, who did it in 1980?

I just assumed that Barry was the right answer yesterday.
Andy Cole?
Or possibly Heskey?

Mr Andrew Cole is correct sir (Venables, Hoddle,Wilkinson and Keegan were the managers)

Really?
I thought I`d end up being wrong as Hoddle surely would have gave him more than one cap during his reign, but obviously not.
Then again when you think back to the strikers available at that time it makes a mockery of the whole suggestion of this being the golden generation.
Shearer, Sheringham, Owen, Ferdinand, Cole, Collymore, Wright, Fowler, Phillips. (Probably missed a few here aswell)

I`d also suggest that Mr Cole`s need of about 10 chances to score one goal would also count against him
(I never thought his control of link play was good either)
