Do I get hit by customs if my order costs £20.
Thanks
YM
More than likely - Amazon stick the `correct` value of the goods on the outside, so Customs will probably sting u.
Sorry
...but also remember that if it`s a gift then you have an allowance of up to £36, and on Amazon.com you can choose the "gifts" option and the package will be marked accordingly...
Its not so much the tax as the amount that the royal mail charge for delaying your parcel thats the bummer.
Ordered dvds worth about £25 from CDNOW, thought the post office had stolen them again but turned out one of their employees was struggling with primary school maths while calculating the charge. Thats £7.71 as in £3.86 tax and £3.85 post office charges. Whats the betting that my next package at about £21 has a similar penny difference due to the post office not being allowed to charge more for work than the tax being added.
Anyone know what the maximum amount is or do they keep upping their charges for delaying the mail ?
As a Royal Mail Employee(consignia) i some how resent the fact that you are taking the mick.
If you read the little slip that customs attach to the parcel you will notice that Royal Mail charge £1.20.The rest of the money is for HM customs.
It is not us who hold your item it is again HM Customs. We deliver the item to your delivery office who either attempt to deliver or leave a card saying a fee is due.If you decide to leave it a week to collect then that`s your perogitive.
If you order form outside the UK then you take a chance at being stung by the powers that be so please have little bit more thought before slagging off us workers who are still bringing your items to you.
Amazon are one of the dearest retailers on the planet(for DVD`s & P&P), so either, they are the only ones to stock what you want or you have money to throw away, in which case another couple of quid won`t make much difference to you. Have you tried www.pricecheck.co.uk. I`m sure you`ll find it cheaper elsewhere and maybe for under the £20 mark. I`ve just received a package from Australia. The label says it`s a gift with a value of $15, inside is $75 worth of DVD`s. Most firms I use do the same.
