Printer goes faulty after 4 months and they first tried to flob it off to say go to the manufactuter as their warrenty expires after 28 days!!! After remionding them of their obligation under sales of goods act they have agreed to repair it but will take 3 weeks!!! I find this totally unacceptable...any suggestions would be welcome.

Happy - well done for exercising your rights with the Dixons-backed so-called PC experts.

However, you do have to allow them a reasonable time period to get the thing fixed, and three weeks is well within the bounds of reasonableness.

I would also strongly recommend that you contact someone in authority at Dixons about what happened at the store you visited : this company has been warned time and time again about the practice of denying responsibility and have "convinced" the authorities that all that staff are now in receipt of correct training : clearly this is not the case. I`d contact the Consumers Association (Which ?) too - they have a long-running campaign against the Dixons group for just about every stunt that they pull.

Charlatans...

Hi clayts (good to see area450`s members also read this site...)
I have been in touch with the manufacturer(Lexmark) and told them the situation and they have kindly agreed to send a replacement (higher model and all) within the next 3 days...They will take up my complaint with pc world...The lady at the Lexmark call centre said all pcworld had to do was replace my printer in the shop and sort it out with them. I guess it would be too taxing for pcworld to do that.....

I shall not buy from them.

Well after I picked myself up off the floor after reading that you actually bought something from PC world, when I went in and asked about an ide hard-drive (internal) and the sales assistant said i could use it as an external one also (well I suppose in theory, I could!) I knew that I would never buy from there!
Hope the printer gets sorted!

Well I think you lot are harsh. I have just finished building my own pc (got the bits from novatech.co.uk excellent service and good prices and no I am not connected to them i work in a bank). However I needed some thermal paste for the heat sink and nipped around to my local pc world. The guy there told me they didi sell it but i could get it at a fraction of the price from a local pc wholesaler. He phoned them to check price and availability as well as drawing me a map to find them!!!!

Now that is good service from pc world

Not had any problem with thme myself, although all I have bought is a a couple of bits of software, books, a Logitech gamepad and a Cat5 crossover cable.

One thing I have noticed is that thier RAM is very expensive - 128MB for £60 when its less than £20 at the independent stores.

Also thier "Special Offers" aren`t really. I think they just decide to put things in a basket at some point, and because they are not

a) quoting any prices
b) actually claiming a "sale"

they don`t have to lower prices, so the offer isn`t actually very special.

I did get JBuilder3 for £10 though, I think if you look hard you can find bargins with them, but you have to know what you want and how much it costs elsewhere.
