Have Game got a scam going, or is it just our store?

Just thought I`d see if this is a common scenario, or whether it`s just in our store.
I`ve been in Game quite a few times over the last month or so, buying pressies, and stuff for myself too. Been in some big queues, and noticed every time, they would tell all the people, "can we owe you a penny?"
Say, you buy something for £x.99, they say they`re short of pennies, EVERY TIME I`M IN.
Okay, a penny isn`t much, and we aren`t bothered about it, but it struck me, how many people they would serve in the run up to Xmas. If they saved a penny on each customer, it would add up to thousands extra in the kitty.
Are they just too lazy to get enough pennies from the bank, or do you think the staff will be having a good knees-up this New Year.....lol :)

Yup at least two GAME stores I`ve been I`ve been told "sorry out of pennys" Hmmmm Scam it could be... whatever it makes a nice conspiricy theory

I`ve experienced it a couple of times in CarphoneWarehouse - wrote to the manager about it and am still waiting a year later for a cheque for £0.02 to arrive :D

Don`t worry folks - I`ve got `em back for you... I paid £14.99 for a GC Memory Card instead of the full £24.99 price!! (Mis-pricing numpty`s)

Pay them by Amex everytime,so that they will end up paying extra 2,5% to amex!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm. What would this achieve? OK you make them pay a bit more out - in the long run if everyone did this Game would just appreciate their prices and the consumer is the one that suffers.
If you are really annoyed with Game, it`s easy enough to shop elsewhere. They certainly don`t have a monopoly on the games market.

If they can`t give you a penny ask them for a two pence piece...you shouldn`t be losing out on the transaction.
I work in a shop - thats what I do if I run out of pennies...
