Problems with PLAY !!

Stressed-Dad (Competent) posted this on Monday, 24th November 2003, 12:21

I would like to start off by saying I have bought over 200 dvd`s from Play & never had a problem until now.
I preordered Dark Water from them about a month ago and was released on R2 24/11/03 on checking my account it says awaiting stock. How can they tell you the release date and then not have it in. Bloody infuriating >:(

One time my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at the local mall, so the whole fiasco wound up on the news. It was embarassing for my relatives and all. But the next week, he did it again. Different cat, same results, complete with a trip to the emergency room. Then, last week, I saw him in the pet store. He was buying another cat! I said, "Walt, what the hell are you doing, you know you`re just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don`t you knock it off?" And he says to me, "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy !

Quite often, the distributor pulls a release at the last moment without telling the retailers. this happened with a couple of Peter Sellers` double DVDs which were due out in April, and I ordered last December. They`re still `awaiting stock` :-). You could always email them or give them a call, as you said you`ve never had a problem with 200 DVD orders up to now. I very much doubt they`ve suddenly become a rogue retailer over the weekend...especially as they tell me they`ve sent out the R1 copy of MASH - Series 5 when it`s not officially out until December 7th.

Erm.... the 24/11/03 is today, so maybe you should wait a while.

Expect the worst and you won`t be disappointed!

Gareth
your missing the point mate! When you preorder a dvd you at least expect the dvd to be sent on the day it`s released not to be told they are still waiting to get it in stock.

I`ve been having exactly the same problems with cd-wow recently - their site does not actually say whether an item is in stock or not - if you look pre-release there is a release date given and when release day arrives this date is removed. But I`ve ordered a couple of things recently (Rolling Stones Four Flicks being one example) and after e-mailing them a couple of times I was told they were having diffs getting it in from their supplier - the site didn`t highlight this though >:(

chances are the suppliers priority list puts the major sellers who don`t sell their product under rrp at the top and cheaper outlets lower down.

It is possible that Play`s computer systems are taking an added while to update, and it is theoretically possible that your DVD is already on its way to you. Or, perhaps the distributor have indeed held back on stock.

Have faith in the best e-retailer. :-D

Sorry... in fact I know the feeling. Loaded 247 still haven`t shipped my Two Towers EE or Hulk boxset, even though they were pre-ordered weeks in advance.

Bloody suppliers! >:(

Expect the worst and you won`t be disappointed!

Grackan, you should have ordered it from DDDHouse.com (if you`re able to play R3), it`s only about 3 or 4 quid delivered, and a very spooky film in places. Play is £14.99.

..and as I suspected earlier on in the thread, my MASH DVDs have turned up almost 2 weeks before the offical release date. So if they have a problem, it`s probably to do with being too damn efficient :-)
