Page 1 of Giant house spider?
Photography Forum
This creature has been running along my skirting for the past couple of days, it is very fast and i have not managed to catch it yet, i stay next to fields along side a canal and have seen some big insects but this spider is huge compared to anything else i have seen.....
Oh fcuk that!!! I`d have booked into the nearest budget hotel at the first sight of it!
It certainly looks like a larger than usual house spider, but how high does your skirting stand? Need to give it some perspective...
Just googled giant house spider - they do exist and have a leg span of up to 10cm. I`m off now! Thank god I never saw that before going to bed!
They usually come indoors around this time of the year. Looks like he's in search of female company.
Don't worry Smurfette that's female spider.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
One summer I was lying in bed with the window open, and I heard light tapping on the wall at the foot of my bed. Turned light on, ARRRGHHH! One of those very spiders!
Even more than whenever I hear a mosquito it has to die before I can sleep, that thing had to get glassed.
When I say glassed, I mean in the put it under a glass, slide a postcard underneath and then throw it out the back door. :)

We used to get spiders like this all the time when I lived in the country. When I was a kid I had loads of posters on my walls and there was nothing worse than lying in bed in the dark and hearing the tell-tale sound of a spider crawling on the poster directly above my head (and the wall was inclined towards me head as well). No sleep was had until it was expelled.
Part of me wants to go all Startship Troopers on them, but another part recognises that without them we'd all be fighting off swarms of flying insects, so I try to get rid of them using non-lethal methods. My Mrs is so phobic of spiders she literally freezes on the spot and wells up. Spiders and David Bowie - her two greatest fears.

My Dad would get back from work to "Tom there's one on the landing".
Mum would drop a glass over the intruder but that's as far as she'd go. Just walk round it all day till Dad got home.
Definitely looks like a category 3 to me

I never googled before i posted but i see they are quite common, my skirting is around four inch and i have took a close up so probably looks bigger than it is, but is still the biggest wild spider i have seen in a home. And it ran that fast that i thought i may be a mouse the first time i seen it.
I never kill any insects, especially spiders, i have some cheap contraption i bought from somewhere that lets you capture these creatures then slide a trap door across it.
Then out the back door they go.

No, she is still terrified of him to this day. We were in Tesco last week and she caught a glimpse of a t-shirt with his face on - she ran the other way. Apparently it's Labyrinth related childhood trauma (maybe the codpiece was too much).
