Printer display shows full ink test page shows none...

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 2nd April 2017, 15:02

So my HP7520 is struggling to print out text and having multiple new cartridges installed it still has the problem.

I've tried running the clean ink heads but still no joy.  All the cartridges are full now but the test page implies the black ink (not photo black) is empty as the box prints empty rather than the black/dark grey/light grey shading the black photo cartridge does...

Is this an easy fix or will it need to be taken in to get repaired?

Cheers
Ross

I don't think people repair printers (or any consumer gadgets under £500 these days). :(

Printers either have the print head built into the cartridge, or as part of the unit itself. I know Epson build them into the cartridge, but HP may not.

I would recommend isopropyl alcohol on a lint free cleaning swab and try to clean the print heads. To access them you may have to get the head out from its parked position (tell it you are changing carts or just do something that moves it and then yank the power lead out).

Rob . I used to clean print heads that way as well. Usually worked as my problem was that I used the printer only occasionally. That said I agree on the Quote:

Nowadays, obscenely,  it seems a new printer is cheaper than buying replacement cartridges so folk merely ditch the old one and get a new one (Local authority recycling howfs stapped foo` wie them :) .  At a wee bit of a tangent :) I use a CISS with my Epson XP605 and it works flawlessly . Photographic prints come out as good as any we have had printed by Asda or Tesco. Well worth giving a CISS set up a try :)

I imagine continious ink supplies are unofficial inks? I've avoided those like the plague after my own investigations into how quickly they fade. :/

It's a good while since I looked but I'm sure some of the photo sites used to actually recommend these so the quality must be good on some.

Thanks for the posts guys.

So I tried cleaning the print heads and contacts (excuse to get a bottle of vodka out) and the test page I printed afterwards looked like I had new Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Photo Black ink cartidges installed, no streaking or anything!

Albeit, it did fcuk all to fix my problem with the Black cartridge! :)

I'm begrudged chucking away a printer that has done 240 pages in 2 years.  It's absolutely disgraceful and the amount of cartridges I've been through to get 240 pages is just unreal.

I like the idea of that CISS option, might buy a budget printer and set it up on that.
