Cheeky Orange putting prices up of existing plans!!!

This is disgusting! I buy an iPhone on a fixed contract, and then Orange just decide oh inflation is high so we are just going to increase your plan by 4.34% and theres nothing you can do because even though we sell these things based on a fixed price over so many months, you didn`t read the small print!!!

Can I cancel my contract because you`re increasing my monthly service charge?

No, our Pay Monthly terms and conditions allow us to increase charges by up to the RPI figure in any 12 month period. The increase in the price plan charges is less than the 5.4% rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) in October 2011.

We can increase prices at any time on giving proper notice. In this case, the increase is less than the current rate of inflation and our terms and conditions state that we can do this without giving you the right to cancel your contract without paying the disconnection fee.

I`d call TS with that one.
Not 100% sure you can claim a contract is "£x over xx months" then halfway through say "unless the RPI says we can add x% on top"

Definitely a case of false or misleading advertising but tbh, I had an orange phone for a year then swore never to use them again.

My Mrs has been a customer for years and will not be renewing at the end of her current contract for this reason. She`s going to go onto GiffGaff and either buy a cheap smartphone or put up with her existing handset. Her monthly bill is already very high for the minutes she receives etc - she could halve it on GG.

Having contracted at Orange (are they Everything Everywhere now?) on a number of occasions I`ve seen just how disorganised and wasteful they are. Horrible corporate environment.

Just done exactly the same thing, and it`s the best move I`ve ever made.

Which? has raised the issue with Ofcom. The campaign group`s technology editor, Matthew Bath, said: "This is a poor way to treat people and we think Orange should put its existing customers first.

"Anyone who is frustrated by this rise should complain to Orange and the regulator, Ofcom. Existing customers should get the price they signed up to for the remainder of their contract."

An Orange spokesperson said: "We are confident that we continue to offer our customers great value and rewarding deals."
I`ve been with Orange since I got my first mobile phone, now I`m off the moment my contract runs out. Not sure where I will go, probably to a company that doesn`t put up fixed long term contract prices with a crappy weak excuse about inflation.

I'm glad the moment my contract ran out I left. Very happy with GiffGaff, get a much better signal, pay much less money, can't think of a single part of moving to them from Orange that isn't better.

And...

They are doing it yet again!

In April they are apparently going to add 79p a month to contracts, unless you sign up to a new option that fixes their current monthly tariff for an additional sum of 50p to £2, depending on the cost of the tariff.
