Anyone know any good Free driver identification sites ?

MADTheOgster (Elite Donator) posted this on Sunday, 26th April 2009, 17:59

I`ve built a pc to see me through till i get my new one, but the audio driver is doing my head in :( i got the mobo & cpu ages ago of ebay for pennies, & iirc it was listed as coming out of a HP Torro, but i can`t find any signs of a model by that name & all attempts to find the audio driver has failed :( i`ve scanned the hardware & it states it`s an SIS 7012 audio device, but trying both the standalone & embeded versions of the driver both fail :(

this is the general spec from the mobo.

skt 479
onboard lan/audio/vga/ide
no sata, & it`s an AGP gfx port, theres no direct branding on the circuit board, but foxconn is printed on the top of the panel housing the audio jacks.

so, totaly lost on this one, does anyone know of any free driver scan/locat software that might help ? otherwise it`s onto fleabay for a cheap soundcard... & thats a bit of a problem cos i`m skint lol...

You could try crucial.com/uk or belarc, or there`s another PC audit tool whose name I`ve forgotton, to see if the scan gives a better model /revision number to see if a driver works?

how about using a Linux boot cd to see if that works, then it should tell you exactly what the soudn card is, so you can get a driver?

Failing that Hiren has livecd of xp that may work?

Mark

I`m no pc builder but my son`s pc is Foxconn and the audio driver is realtek-ac97.

I think you can get it here

thanks for the replies guys :) i allready tried the ac-97 drivers, & it gave me bsod :( also looked at the agp/pci profile thats where i got the info about the sis 7012, i also loaded ubuntu & that found the sound driver & it worked fine, & confirmed that it`s the sis 7012 chipset, so i`m gonna try a re-install & see if it picks it up properly this time :/

I`ve got a disc with 10,000 (or is it 100,000...?) drivers on it. If you want a copy, PM me :o)

It`s never failed me.

You could try DriverGuide - you`ll have to register to download anything, but they won`t spam you or anything. I have found it useful once or twice with ID`ing drivers for problem devices.
