Page 1 of problem with pc

hello i have a problem with the dell laptop i have
spoke to them and they sent vista and drivers cds
for me to reinstall but never done anything like this before
is there anything that i should look out for when i`m doing this
to notice if i`m going wrong or is it pritty much straight forward?
not that pc savvy as anybody who have read my posts in the
past would no so once again any help would be well taken

it is straightforward but you will most likely lose anything stored on your computer, i.e.downloads, documents, email if you download email rather than use webmail, favourites/bookmarks.

but the actual process if reinstalling windows is straightforward these days, it`s the backing up before hand is the tricky bit, making sure you don`t miss anything.

IE, Firefox etc have the option to export bookmarks, so you`d want to do that, and burn them to a CD/DVD, and copy to a USB device of some kind, make sure that works before the reinstall, as once you`ve done it you can`t go back and get the files back.

its easy enough anyone can do a reinstall its uaslly all done from a recovery partition on your c: drive if thats currupt then your recovery disks are next option or vista oem disk
just make sure you keep stuff like you pictures, videos documents and bookmarks ect as these wont be installed when you install windows and any third party software such as spybot, norton or mcafee and any software that did not come with windows

also make sure you have your disks for any pheripharls such as printer/scanner , cameras, dongles and any other kit that you may need. although most usb kit is self install although some require drivers that are not included with windows. hope this helps

hello i did the reinstall and the vista one went ok loaded fine and
everything went ok
went to do the drivers and utilities one and the thing would not load
had to in the end down load stuff from the dell web site
[ thankfully my nephew was in and newish what he was doing]
contacted dell on Monday and they emailed me the download i need to
get the laptop back to normal
only thing is nothing changed emailed dell again waiting for a reply
