i use windows vista home premium on a compaq presario laptop

i use tuneup utilities for all my mainteance

it has defrag, registry cleaner, service optomiser, internet optomiser, disk cleaner, disk doctor, reg defrag and startup process manager
its has sum costomising tools too to chage boot, logon and logo screens as well as the color of the program windows or `themes` as its called there are downloadable ones available
and the desktop icons can be changed/ with or without shortcut arrows ect

i use macafee for my spyware/ virus/ malware needs

to determine what charge it will hold discharge the battery fully till it no longer plays then charge it fully do this a couple of times to determine its capacity all rechargeable batteries
need to be power cycled every so often to get best performance.

discharging it fully ( no power save mode enabled) will usally reset battery indicator on most ipod /mp3 /laptop /cellphone ect even regular AA, AAA , C and D rechargeable batteries need power cycled.

i power cycle all of my equipment`s batteries at least once a month and regular batts once every 3 months depend on useage hope this helps

or set both screens to the same resolution i did on mine and its fine (make sure your tv can handle high resolution or use a lower one on the laptop and change size of icons)

my rounter is 12 meters from my master socket i dont experience any interferance at all
on my phones (cordless digital ones synergy by bt quads) and i have lcd tv not a problem
there either there or my family`s 3 wireless laptops, mobile phones playstation consoles or anything the line is good i even have a broadband phone as wel as those powerlines for vision box so if i not have interferance out of all that i never will lol

i think defrag help a little though not a huge improvement but keeping the registry tidy does help i use tuneup utilities i been using it for about 7 years (variuos updates) tuneup 2009

its easy enough anyone can do a reinstall its uaslly all done from a recovery partition on your c: drive if thats currupt then your recovery disks are next option or vista oem disk
just make sure you keep stuff like you pictures, videos documents and bookmarks ect as these wont be installed when you install windows and any third party software such as spybot, norton or mcafee and any software that did not come with windows

also make sure you have your disks for any pheripharls such as printer/scanner , cameras, dongles and any other kit that you may need. although most usb kit is self install although some require drivers that are not included with windows. hope this helps

you can also have then `hidden` by default under your wifes account just by removing them from the start menu wen she is logged in then wen she next logs in it will be saved that
way for her this does not mess up your account or personal settings/programs


you could also have her use a standard user whilst you use the admin account wat this does as limits or prohibits installs without admin permission (she would`d be able to install anything with your password) hope this helps

i find it easier to manually do this sort of thing its more accurate and i can fine tune things as well first of go to your vista and xp machines go to system on each machine and put
into same workgroup name to get there go to start menu --control panel--perfomance and maintance and select changes type in a name for your workgroup for example mine is called yim (family name) then on your vista pick a folder we used `downloads` right click it
go to properties and click sharing then advanced sharing click share this folder then click permissions choose everyone and check the boxes for full control apply and ok it and go to
security tab click edit and add then type everyone and check the full control box apply and ok it now this folder is shared do the same on xp computer and check firewalls on both allow file sharing check this by going to network places on a computer and choose view computers and devices click the computer icon if it says network saurce unavailable
or similar go to that computer and (norton) and click view history you will find the computers ip select the entry (highlight) and click more details then click allow thats it
go to other computer and access it should be there do the same for the other computer

i have this same machine but i have not needed to mod it it was region free but it say on box
r2 but i have been able to play all my r6s,r3s and r1s init as wel odd ??? it did have a scart fault had it changed at shop and this one is the same only wthout scart fault but still
able to play all region

my point is try a few disks in it use a r6 disk first that my suggestion
i got it in a uk argos shop wen i was over hope this helps.

RE: OK GUYS...HELP NEEDED AGAIN.....

sumtime certain hardware drivers cause this a mobile phone connecter did this to me
check any new hardware additions ie did you just add sumthing a camera, hard disk
or a monitor?? could be a faulty driver goto hardware manager and delete it
and try reinstall or update from product website or your operating system might not fully
support item`s full use ie , older cameras and certain mobile phone leads

try different model or type equipment also check any new software you added such as rippers copiers or anything to do with the dvd sum dvd drives are picky at wat software you use and if you using any interface devices such as mice and keyboards if this is a laptop diconnect such devices and see if it works ok without

finally take a look at the power settings in vista they are found when you right click
the desktop and select personalise select screensaver and and select change power settings click power saver plan and goto change plan settings select never for everything then click on change advanced power settings goto turnoff hard disk and ajust time for both battery and plugged in choose 20 mins to 30 mins for hard disk on plug and 5 mins on batt this is wat it should be now goto sleep select never for that
select low bat level action and choose 10% choose critical bat action and chhose shut down choose 5% for critical battery action this is sufficent

hope these default settings help these have been my settings for 7 years without probs


microsoft is notorios for that sort of thing i fixed i lot of things on my computers and eventually networked them 2 vista and one xp and a printer took 4 years to completely get rid of bugs and stuff

wat to do is this get an engineer out pay nuthing phone up sky tell them you will cancel
if you cant get it working they will give you sum deal but keep at it they would rather
keep you as a customer than worry about a £65 callout charge

but sum people are selling the tokens on ebay but you have to be quick
becouse they have to be sent in before the 31 of november i

got one it really good it can be used as a memory stick but i use it for both

sounds like you downloaded it but not installed it goto the folder you
downloaded it to and install it (also use a reg cleaner to make sure you
get rid of any left over bits from earlier versions)

its not the isp you need to check your internet settings becouse the internet at your house
seem to allow said port to forward and you mate`s internet isnt
this souds like a router configuration issue just go into the router and allow
the port ie 25 to forward if this is the one your email uses

alternatively you can use a free email provider like yahoo. hope this helps

i use a laptop everyday just an external drive plugged into it and my ipod i use it inbuilt keyboard and trackpad i dont like mice much the clicking annoys me i like very quiet
no problem i dont batter it like my brother

so wear is light only sum discolor on the palm rest and trackpad from
normal use

the plastic that its made from is type that dicolors its a grey/black kind

do you have freeview on this tv?? or is it a seprate box?

i prefere to use scart less hassel my dvdr is connected as such

freeview/btvision/sky-scart-dvdr-svideo-tv-svideo-dvdr simple but works

i add a macroremover to the setup occasionally for stability with some channels

RE: Watching V+ in seperate room

setting up digibox :
1) drop terestial you get all the channels through your didgibox and it will be switched off anyway.
2) connect vcr/dvdr via scart to digibox scart port(vcr) yes you can record this way too
3)connect ariel anteanna(coax) to antenna port( where your channels come from)
4)connect scew type cable to cable in port (this is for pvr function on box
5)connect ethernet cable(phone line to hub/reuter)
6) opional second tv via coax to tv port located below antenna port
7) connect some speakers if you have them into the white L and red R sockets
8) a video sender can be added for remote to work in second room tv

these ports are found on most models dont worry if sum are not on your model
it should work just fine every box made has scarts and coax these are your primary connections,

i have a free view connected with only a scart and one coax thats all you need for freeview

me have same one they work on all equipment watever the make great to
help get rid of those old vhs tapes!!! the dvd recorder does not need to be anything special
any one will do i used a cheap cyberhome for all my needs

once you burn said disk switch of laptop that you are put it into switch on it should
read of it without you having done anything it should say windows retreaving files
or similar then just follow on screen prompts.


my brother`s laptop and my own have been rebooted a couple of times due to strange behavour ie missing windows files, antivirus not working, driver probs and various other things so dont worry. just make sure you have your documents, programs(didnt cum with windows) music and anything else backed up on external hard drive/dvd/cd watever you back media is

sites you are registered with are not affected such as ebay, itunes, veoh, youtube email account ect but you will need to reinstall your players/plugins to use sum sites ie veoh tv, quicktime, divx ect so make sure you have these ready. also your hardware cds/dvds

for printers, cameras, scanners and of corse watever internet router you are using
if this is you main pc, if your using wifi or lan then you just need to find it in your adapter`s settings and click connect and enter key(if wifi) or just connect an eathernet cable your adapter will find it automatically and connect itself.
