Any advice on what the best film editing software to use is? I have a standard digital camcorder and have loads of home movies that id like to play around with but dont know where to look for some good movie editing software. The only real condition is that the cheaper is the better!!!

To be honest, would have a go at using windows movie maker first thats included with xp or you can download for free off the microsoft website, the only neg thing about it, it just produceds an encoded file at the end and you will need a separate dvd burning software to burn to dvd. Also most of the main editing suites have trials, e,g ulead, pinnacle, adobe and my fav sony vegas.

You will get loads of people suggesting all different ones, but its best to find one that suits you. I used to like pinnacle, then adobe prem elements, now I am vegas. Another mine field of choice again, eny miney moe.

I use Womble Mpeg / DVD wizard

Brilliant software and so easy to use. I have tried Windows movie maker, but this beats it hands down as an editor.

Avid DV Free

Try this, its basic and free, and pro`s use upscaled versions of this for movies, same layout as this free one. So later if you happen to want to go into editing or just get a better version of the software, you have already gained experience of the layout and dont have to relearn.

I used Final Cut Pro for years in college, and when i got a job editing, it was all Avid. Big re-learning curve. Now, its like riding a bike.

cheers
