Bad Torrent?

buff2k (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 22nd September 2005, 22:17

Help please (I`m feeling a bit `Lost` here ;) )

I downloaded a torrent which contains 24 files all ending in .r followed by a number (00 through to 23) the only other files are a .sfv file and a .rar file. I tried to open the .rar file using extract now but when its finished extracting it says done but with errors and the file it creates is empty :/

Anyone got any ideas?

Again my usual opening :)

but

Files such as these may be Real player style files. If they are indeed video files then you may have to download/install real player.

If they are Real Player files and you hope to convert them to AVI etc then you should visit http://www.videohelp.com and download a utility that will convert the format.

Buff, you need to double-click on the 00 file. Winrar will combine and extract the necessary files.

*sfv is a split file verifier. A verification program uses this file to check that all the r.* files are complete.

It sounds like you`ll end up with cues and bins. Nero will come in handy, methinks..

If there`s an error you need to repair the files. If you list the files using the "Details" view instead of "icons" or whatever, you will see that some files are smaller in size than others - these are the files which are causing the errors and they need to be repaired.

If the rars came with some files that are PAR or PAR2 files, you can repair the rar files using these.

To do this you need a freeware proggy called QuickPar.

To use QuickPar just install and double-click on one of the PAR files. When QuickPar opens, tick the "auto-repair" box. It will do it`s thang. Do not ask me how it knows how to do the repairing, I am certain it does it with actual magic!

When it says "Repair Succeeded" just double-click on the .rar file again to start the extraction. There won`t be an error this time and you`ll get a folder containing either an .avi file or the .bin and .cue files.

/not that I know this from first-hand experience, I read it somewhere...

if it`s the "pack" i think it is, you won`t end up with bin & cue files, you`ll have 23 .avi files @ 349/350meg each & 1 mpg xsvcd file @ 749meg ;)

i could be wrong tho :D

Cheers for the replies guys :)

Sadly no PAR or PAR2 files, tried extracting the .r files using Winrar only to be told that the volume is corrupt halfway through the extraction (happens on all 24 files) :o >:( :/ They do appear to all be avi files though, no bin or cue files :/

I`ve got another torrent on the go but any other suggestions are more than welcome :)

That`s a shame, the PARs would`ve fixed it. :(

buff, email me with the details of the toorent, inc, where you got it from, & is it a "scene" release, also, email me the torrent link, if it has damaged files the chances are there will be a "fix" for it somewhere, Failing that we can allways go back to my original offer that we talked about yesterday ;)
