Page 1 of Copying DVDS
PCs & Mobiles Forum
Just installed an LG GSA-4163B DVD writer with the intention of being able to back up my most played DVDS. After discovering the discs i want to copy are mainly dual layer I downloaded and used DVD Shrink. This fit everything perfectly on a normal DVD-R disc (am using Datawrite Titanium 8x dvd-rs), but when i come to play it back it will work sometimes, but then freeze in different places and not go any further. The discs are being burnt at 8x. Am I doing anything wrong?
Doesn`t sound like you`re doing anything wrong.
Does it play OK on your PC but freezes etc. on your main player? Sounds like your player may not like the discs (surprising `cos they`re decent enough discs). If it`s freezing in different places it means the problem is not on the disc as such - more the player is struggling to play them.
Try some different disks. (Ritek G05 8x are good)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
How are you performing the backup process?
I usually (because of the compression factors), just let DVD-Shrink, do its startup check & then re-author the film (drag & drop) main title from r/h side to left & then press backup. Leaving things like trailers & extras behind.
Others do a deep analasis (can`t spell this morning) first.
Are you backing up on the fly ie using Nero & burning straight to disc or copying to HDD first.
I personally use Verbatim media + or -, I have never used Datawrite disc`s (don`t flame me as thats not meant to be a comment against them), so perhaps you should try a different brand of media as a first step.

If you can manage to get a copy of 321s DVDCOPY Express you can`t go wrong.I back all my DVDs this way as
a) my kids use them in the car so if someone breaks in the get the copy not the original
b) if you damage a disk just run off another copy
as I don`t want all the different menus etc all the time this programme is easiest.
First of all I did a backup letting DVD Shrink choose the compression rate, but saved it to a DVD iso. This didn`t work in3 players or the comps dvd player, just kept freezing in exactly the same place.
The second one I did was exactly the same, but I backed it to HDD so I had the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders then burnt them through Nero. I haven`t done it on the fly as I`d rather keep the processes similar.
Will burning at a slower speed help?
I dont make ISO`s using DVD shrink, I just backup & drag`n`drop Video_TS onto a formatted DVD.

Hi
I have had this problem recently - save it to hard disk using Srink and then download Imgtool (It`s Free). Now burn your disks with Imgtool as long as you have Nero installed. You should have a perfect backup.
Best os Luck

I just use DVDXCopy XPress, it resizes everything for you. Pop in your source dvd, it rips and resizes in 10-30 minutes, pop in a blank coaster and press the big `START` button, et voila, all done! I`ve copied about 100 discs and only had 3 that didn`t work but were fine second time round.

I have a 4x LG DVD writer. I use Clone DVD2 and AnyDVD to back-up my DVD`s which is very easy to use. I have had problems getting media to work at 4x and with some of the media my Panasonic DVD recorder has problems playing the films especially near the end??
I mostly get good results with Ritec G04 media from SVP
I had probs using the separate authoring/burning programmes which is why
I switched to using XCopy. I don`t know if it was down to incompatible protocols or something because I was using the same blank media, same PC etc.
